What is the difference between ultra and non-ultra? and does it include the z-link expansion board?

completely different boxes
the old one has only Adat, the more recent 'ultra' has both Adat and Z-Link.
A16 converts to 16 bit, though the chips operate at 18 bits (providing a 'reliable' 16th bit)

An old A16 may show significant wear if it was in use (over years) in racks with bad airflow.
The supply voltage stabilizers heat it up significantly.
I only have the old version (and happen to like it's 'tone') - it's not the most transparent thing on earth.
Imho it serves Rock, Funk, Jazz (in a clubby atmo) and acoustic stuff quite well.
For Film Score and Top-40 pop one might prefer the 'ultra' version.

cheers, Tom
