Hi,
I just got my third DSP card which take me upto 18 DSP's, now I am not sure if this is to do with only having 1 STDM, but it seems I can only push my system 2/3 of the way until it tells me I have no more DSP allocation. I did notice that DSP distribution is accross the 3 boards, but it misses some DSP's from each card.
Any suggestions? need 2 STDM's for 3 Pulsar 2's
Thank you.

Re: 3x Pulsar 2
I think you need to have 2 STD cables for chaining Pulsar 2 boards ...
Re: 3x Pulsar 2
a lot depends on which modules are loaded as well. many devices span more than one dsp and some, because of dsp allotment and the order things are loaded, span more than one dsp even though the device may actually be smaller than one dsp. if those dsps are too physically far apart, timing issues arise which make the device unloadable. at least Scope will do a reshuffle of devices(global optimization) which may make things fit. in ProTools HD, there is no such option. depending on the device used and the exact problem, another s/tdm cable MIGHT help...
Re: 3x Pulsar 2
Thanks garyb, I see what you mean, I have now loaded a multiple of modules and it has reached the maximum 18 DSP capacity rather than 2/3’s. What I did is have 1 synth and push it to see how much polyphony it could have at 96Khz and with your explanation now I know why it is not possible due to the DSP's being physically too far apart and thus having latency.
Now the question is, would this change if I bought another STDM, thus having 2 cables running parallel, would this optimize it or just make no difference?
Thanks

Re: 3x Pulsar 2
that's hard to answer. if the problem was that there weren't enough pathways between cards, then it will help. if the problem was latency related, then no.
