i hope they are taking advantage of the fact that RAM costs almost nothing and put 4GB int that sucker :D i would like a delay where i can play a note and i plays back next week :)

or more importantly have a separate delay and/or reverb for each track without using PC memory and wasting bus bandwidth.

when it comes out and i finally get one, I think ill turn one of my scope boards in to the ultimate active speaker crossover for 5.1 :)

I believe there are updates all around, so that would include EQ's, etc.

The new surround reverb module looks VERY interesting, but I know nothing about it, and it wasn't registered on the particular demo unit, so it didn't work.

Stay tuned...

RAM would be an excellent idea. DSP is great but DSP plus RAM is the ultimate.

So im looking at some new eq's and some synths. I guess that is fair enough. I have been planing to upgrade my setup but it might be wise to wait as all the current cards may fall through the floor in value. Anyone have thoughts on that topic?

really, there might be some devaluation in cards when the first desperate few dump them for an XITE, but since the cards are still manufactured and have not gone down in price, the used market should stay in the same range, especially with the software update. the cards work as well as ever, as well as anything else on the market, and in my mind, better. the cards still sound great and are a bargain at the current prices. i don't think it's really an issue, though if you're thinking you might have a chance at someone dumping their cards for an XITE, well that could happen.

as far as the update goes, the stuff "under the hood" is as important as the new freebies, as is the other thing that will tend to extend the card's usefullness and value, drivers for the current OSs.

question for the knowledgeable, i hear that xite loads presets a lot faster than scope, does that mean that a synth or other plug made for "old scope" will have the advantage of the quick loading?

yes, this is truly a 10-20 year investment in gear for a pittance when priced aroud $4k and that might otherwise take 10-20 years to accumulate. this is the biggest no-brainer flat-out bargain in the ENTIRE world of audio/synths. i can't think of a good reason not to invest in one, unless one already owns all the real gear that the XITE can model or replace and even then, for the sheer power and scope(sorry) of TEN TIMES THE POWER OF A 14 DSP CARD($1700-2000), the niftiness and convienience of the package makes it worth considering. i'd spend the money on the XITE before the computer itself, though. that's for sure.

owning an XITE can put a small studio up into the big leagues with just a couple of choice mics, a choice pre or two and some room treatment.

afaik, if they function, they should load like lightning in XITE compared to the cards since you can load a whole Pulsar2 project on ONE of the new chips.

Actually, in many ways, if SC would update the STS-5000, then perhaps even all the extra RAM becomes moot.

I've already converted some of my Kontakt3 libraries into STS, and it's a noticeable improvement (although STS-5000 needs an upgrade by now anyways IMO).

Lots of all this extra RAM is needed nowadays just to be able to run the ever-bloated OS (although I'm presuming that Win7 will eventually be better than Vista in that regard).

It's hard to express the horsepower of this thing. It requires a remapping of what paradigms you're used to in your brain to get your head around what's happening here.

Leave the RAM for the graphics cards and OS <hehe>.

I have to agree with you Garyb. If I had not already accumulated 10k in native software I would jump on that for sure. It would be great if SC updated the EQ and Compressor in the 2448. I think they are very useful already but it would be great if they could make them stand side by side with a product like Duende. That would gain them some serious attention if advertized well.

I disagree that people will be dumping their cards in droves on ebay to buy an xite-1.

That is Gary's pipe dream! To gauge sales figures, keep an eye on the number of posts in the xite section of planetz.

braincell, for those of us who are road musicians, there isn't any doubt that the xite one will be an improvement over the older cards. and then back home, i'll be using my old cards on a dedicated host to drive lets say, gigasampler or other stuff. you are right though, we probably won't be ditching our old cards

I'm keeping my older cards - some going back 10 years now.

Besides, I believe that Xite has Z-link, so it can be networked/tethered to the older hardware.

Heeeeehawwwwww...

Lots of Mac guys came from lack of Gigastudio being Mac compatible.
They then had Giga slaves, and more recently VI, Kontackt and PLAY slaves for all of those huge Orchestral libraries.
The price cuts Intel will announce next week will allow guys to just do a new build and keep a Scope slave. The Scope slave can also become a slave just for a VI String using Scope cards.
Especially since VI can assign cores on a Quad for even better performance.
Selling your cards won't line your pockets, but keeping them is a testament to their real value IMHO. I haven't seen anyone using a EgoSystems or Aardvark card for years now, where as Scope which were released even earlier than those cards, lives on in infamy.

I guess you mean that it can be connected via Z-link or ADAT to an A16 ultra & not that it can be connected via Z-link directly to an existing Scope system?

Until now z-link has never worked as a card to card connection, only for I/O boxes like Luna breakout or A16. I think that Xite makes no difference.

If your system is setup with the newest card as the main card, then the others just give you extra DSP.
Should be no performance impact - at least it wasn't on my system.
