New hardware sample drum machine
New hardware sample drum machine
Just came across this:
http://www.gearjunkies.com/news_info.php?news_id=3415
OK I know the whole 'kraazy beat thaang' type marketing language kinda sucks, and it has an effect called 'FREAK', but functionally this looks like a really cool device. MPC-type machines can be really great to work with once you've learnt to be fast on them, and this one looks like the guys behind it have used MPCs before and improved on a lot of the shortcomings - pad mutes instead of spreading drums over tracks to use track mutes for example. Realtime access to data on SD card storage with no load times looks very interesting. It's pretty cool that someone new is making these kinds of devices - I doubt Numark would do anything really innovative with the MPC technology, and the recent build and software quality hasn't been great.

Re: New hardware sample drum machine
An excellent product thanks.
The hardware sequencer capabilities are a bonus also.
I like their attitude calling out the big guys...
No mention of expandability w/ onboard RAM but they fact that they say 256MB standard makes me think 1GB is coming.
I look forward to a hardware sampler packed w/ SSD's.
Ciao.

Re: New hardware sample drum machine
Jimmy it uses SD card flash RAM.
I saw some more in-depth specs on another forum and it's seriously jaw dropping for a drum-oriented sampler. Blows the MPC out of the water.
To be honest, it makes me think that it's some kind of computer in there.

The guy doesn't get a lot of love on the thread and is backed into a corner by the forum etiquette police and he kinda flips out. But it's something that can happen with people not used to forums. I'm still rather intrigued by this hardware.

Re: New hardware sample drum machine
read that one, too

at least he writes 'less than a MPC 2500', which translates to about 1k Euro streetprice here
wanted a MPC anyway, so thanks for pointing this out
cheers, Tom

Re: New hardware sample drum machine
I love this guy & and all of his political correctness.
A developer who insults forum nay-sayers is obviuosly intelligent enough to realize they won't buy his gear anyway......
Be Loud and be Proud.........cause the South's gonna do it again.
I should buy this just on general purposes.
Let's give this guy some support, anyone as eloquent as him deserves to be honored.
I will invite him over here immediately.

Re: New hardware sample drum machine
footswitched AND battery powered, yummy

Re: New hardware sample drum machine
I will visit these characters for sure.
Booth 2764. Chap says they took over the Pintech booth.
I am very interested in anything high tech & mobile.
I am somewhat perplexed about no MIDI though.
I already have my sons battery powered Rompler, and now this?
Chimney beach at Lake Tahoe will never be the same.
From what the company is comprised of appears to be a financial hook up, tech savvy genius, and street wise Brotha's................I love the way they taunt the big guys into battle, inviting them to do some beats on the fly & in person...
Fuck Da Police...DahBoomBoom...
I will definately get somes pics of these characters.

Re: New hardware sample drum machine
if this guy is for real, then the stuff will rule.. he says there are one midi in and one midi out, Jimmy
two battery powered phantom channels, I hope it lasts more than 20 minutes

Re: New hardware sample drum machine
I couldn't see the MIDI I/O's in the specs. but now I know it will be valuable.
6 hours on a rechargable lithium battery.
These guys have done their homework.
This is a father / son bonding instrument since it has such rapid results. My kid is the quietest one when we fish, but he lacks the patience with program creation since he can't hear results rapidly, but this is no one trick pony. Instant gratification and the RAM seems only limited by the size of the cards? Wow, it's gotta be an ITX inside of it or something.
NAMM will be as exciting as an old Flame...

Re: New hardware sample drum machine
That thread on HC is pretty damn funny.
.. At least it cooled down after the companies' very own street wise loony tune nutta left the building.
The machine's got some very cool sounding features, but I can't say I like it's case styling. Looks like it was designed by a flashing light loving overclocking Pimp My Ride host. They say they do custom paint jobzz etc too. JV, it would be funny if you inquired at Namm about a flip tone paint job with custom flamezz on da sidezz.
I'll maybe buy one in 5 or 6 years 2nd hand on ebay for 120 notes.

Re: New hardware sample drum machine
I hope it has a signature sound like the older MPCs. Those things had a strange sound to them I remember... like you took the samples, and stuck a 9V battery on them.
Re: New hardware sample drum machine
I will definately be dropping in the Brotha's....
A low angle founding fathers pose in all black would be cool, I'll use paint and stick Obama in there with 'em too.
Flames on the side...yaayes.
Bottim line to me if it sounds good. I would love to use it's key spanning features and import my own Taiko's etc.
I have been using my Mark Bell Tree on those digusting lushy ballads and having fun doing percussion stuff.
Those spineless Jellyfish @ HC got a great shock treatment and fell right into the Brotha's trap. They know those chumps won't buy shit, but they would yack it up on the thread and help in sales for those who actually buy gear instead of practicing their lies on a QWERTY.....
Excellent Tactics Indeed.

Re: New hardware sample drum machine
The look of the beat thank reminds me of the yamaha toys back in the 90s

"Heaven is there where hell is and heaven is not on earth!"

VaporHardWare

Thanks for the link!
It looks very interesting! Pretty powerful features!
This reminds me Sequential Circuits • Studio 440 in 1984 is about $5K that I had it for a while!
http://www.vintagesynth.com/sci/studio440.shtml
Roland also has similar like MC-808 or MC-909: Sampling Groovebox

Re: New hardware sample drum machine
Studio 440 could be seen next to Suzanne Ciani's Synclavier from N.E.D. in a review Years ago.
My drummer then had the Oberheim DMX and drooled at the pic.
It's one of the few hardware units from the glory days I can say I never had the pleasure to touch.
Bloody Lucky You.

Re: New hardware sample drum machine
If its anything like their last effort "streetboxx" it will be be cheap and plentifull but not highly sought after because of some flaw or another.
(yes i have one I got given when i bought something else. i turned it on once and put it on the shelf......oh.....THATS what that extra wall wart is from!)
no proper separate outputs only USB? WTF do PA systems and power amps have USB now?

Re: New hardware sample drum machine
It looks a bit like vaporware. Not sure about it.Here is a Picture.

Re: New hardware sample drum machine
I am also confused by no mention of audio I/O other than USB?
How would one of us get the audio into our project window?
Surely w/ all of the indentations that are barely visible on the backside of the dark orbital, there must be a set of I/O's of some sort.
Custom Grills and Paintz......
I want the Grill of a Cadillac and then I'll put 4 x spoked rimmed tires on each corner for easy desktop rollin'.
They're posing with a guy who looks like Bernie Madoff.........so it could be VaporHardware.
