Scope Project Plus, Klangbox and 2xMagma chassis for sale
Scope Project Plus, Klangbox and 2xMagma chassis for sale
Hello!
I have a few items for sale that might be of interest to the Z community, I figured I'd post here before I go to Ebay:
1 Magma CB-232 2 slot chassis, PSU and short cable - 250 EUR - this can work with 3 cards, and can also be fitted with an 100W M3 12v PSU for portable operation (not included). I have tested both of these configurations myself.
1 Magma CB-432 4 slot chassis, PSU and long cable - 300 EUR - this is a little larger than the CB2. It's a 2U chassis, that can take up to 4 PCI cards, plus a couple of hard-disks. This should prove useful if you want to combine Scope cards with other PCI audio interfaces or DSP cards, and if you need extra HD space for storing samples/tracks or recording.
1 Magma PCMCIA interface - 120 EUR - to connect to a laptop
1 Magma PCI interface - 80 EUR - to connect to a regular MoBo
I would rather sell a combination of chassis + interface, so that gets first priority. If it doesn't happen, i am willing to break it up, and sell the spares on Ebay. Check www.magma.com for more info on these items and remember, if you live in Europe, you need to add postage and taxes to the retail prices shown there.
Also, to your consideration, I'm selling a Scope Project, 6 DSP card with PLUS I/O (balanced XLR), and Scope v.4.5, serial no: # TEXK1XB0B, with the following plugs:
Spectral Balance Controller
Scope Fusion Platform
Main Studiotools Package
Mixer Package 1

Card is 2 years old, and was bought new from JRR Shop. Price is 400 EUR.
Finally, a Creamware Prodissey Klangbox, with very little use, 170 EUR.
All items ship from Portugal, and I accept paypal, bank transfer. COD can also be arranged. Buyer pays shipping costs.
PM or post if if interested. The prices are quite sensible, I believe, but feel free to contact if you have an interesting offer or trade. I can make a small discount if you buy the scope and one of the chassis as well.
All the best,
T
edit: I almost forgot- I also have a Wave Idea BitStream3X controller, and maybe I'd like to sell it too, although I have to find a suitable alternative. But I thought I'd ask if anybody here is interested, it could go for about 200 EUR?

I don't think you need to worry, Kylie...
Both chassis have the older DEC chip... I had been waiting for the arrival of the new Pericom to sell these, as I wanted to give it a full testing. Anyway, since we're on the subject, even though it's in another thread, let me clear this up a little:
- Pericom chips are the latest from Magma, and are recommended to use with Express card interfaces.
- on the MacBook Pro, there is a significant difference between the pericom with Express Card and the DEC with PCMCIA and adapter. The DEC won't work directly with the Express Card on the MacBook Pro. The cable doesn't seem to make so much of a difference as Magma would suggest...
- on other PCs and laptops, users have reported EC cards to actually work with DEC chassis, even though it's debatable if there is a bandwidth gain comparing to PCMCIA. Magma the company actually stands by this, claiming there is a compatibility issue only with some particular Express card interfaces, and they have some more (recent) info in their FAQ. Magma and Scope are said to work even in Vista, although I couldn't do it personally (Vista wouldn't recognize Scope).
Please search for posts by me or helldriver in "Problem solving" and you'll get more information on this.
So, what is it good for? First of all, live use: I measured 5 MVs BW for both chassis with PCMCIA and 21 DSPs. This would give you a very decent multi-synth / mixer / FX setup for live use, if you go easy on reverbs and such (it can still do a couple). Next, portability: pair the 2 slot with a laptop, and bring a whole scope rig with you on a travel bag. It's about the same size as a 15" widescreen laptop, a litle more than 1U high. Or use a miniITX board with one PCI/PCMCIA slot for a nano sized Scope System. Third- power saving: a 100W 12v PSU can power 3 Scope cards (36 DSP - tested by me), and a smart choice of CPU/HDD can work with diminute amounts of energy. his is particularly interesting for remote studio setups, solar powered...
You can get Proddy and Minimax and such with an ASX or Klangbox, and a Noah will give you more power than a 15 DSP on a Magma (even with Pericom). BUT how can you take you SpaceF and Bowen synths on the road, or to rehearsals? Of course, I won't lie here: the best way is to have a proper Scope DAW with the PCI slots on the MOBO. But then, even if you can build it in a small case, you will still need a monitor, a keyboard and a mouse.
The 4 slot, I agree, is not as portable, and I cannot say that it can run on 12v, as I didn't test it. But it can house 4 PCI cards and a couple of hard disks in a 2U case, and make it all accessible to another PC, if you need such a thing.
Anyway, in all cases, I would recommend the newer pericom chassis just because they're new and will handle PCI-E better. I'm not so sure that the difference in performance is that big, but I'm hoping the new drivers will bring some improvement to both platforms, DEC and Pericom. A new CB-264 2 slot goes for about 1000EUR in Europe.

I knew that, and I read the threads mentioned, of course. thing is, I've got one of the older 13slot cases with a dec card inside, and a dec pci card for the host that was recognized by the pc at once and works (though I didn't do the mv test yet on this setup). I just know it works, and I want to make sure to have the case working with another pc I intend to add the card to you offer here. should be out of the box, then. I don't intend to run this case with an EC card. maybe I want to try the pcie-x1 card, but before I do that I will check with magma if my board would support this card, of course. if not, well, I can still run some stuff outside my case...Tau wrote:I don't think you need to worry, Kylie...

I'm sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.

maybe....
i sent a private message but my screen kept hanging when i sent it.
are these still for sale?
i am interested in the magma 2-slot chassis, the pcmcia card, and the 6-dsp scope card.
maybe some kind folks here can also give me some advice. i am thinking about migrating from my desktop to a dual-core vista laptop (toshiba portege m700 - it has no express card slot).
i do all my work in pro tools and i currently use a 6-dsp scope for almost all my synths (maybe 4-6 tracks per song). i don't use any effects from the scope, just synths. anyway, i am upgrading all my I/Os to 96KHz and starting work on a new album, so i am wondering whether the magma/pcmcia card with 12 dsps would be enough for 3 or 4 synths at 96k. can the pcmcia interface handle that? the only audio passing through the card would be these synths....i use a different (firewire) audio interface for everything else.
or if someone could suggest some really good software synths....the NI stuff is good, but not quite as "rich" as creamware...IMHO...i am still searching for some software synths that can compare to the scope synths...i haven't found them yet, so here i am holding on to my old pulsar 1 card for years and years despite all issues that come with it.
thanks,
ekechi

Hi! I sent you a PM!
Thanks!

P.S: not many VSTs compare... Two that I like particularly are Virsyn Tera for the sound and extensive modularity (somehow replicated in Cubase 4) and Cakewalk Z3ta+, that has the sharpest sound I ever heard in VST... battery for drums. Of course it's been years since I last paid any attention to new VSTs, as a side effect of using Scope...
Thanks!

Hello francis! I don't know for sure, but being in Europe, it should be somewhere between 20-40 EUR. Would you like me to find out the exact amount?
T
EDIT: This was just a guess, don't be alarmed! I'm not going to make money out of shipping. Buyer pays only actual costs, that is exactly what I pay the post office...
