Well, my 20+ years of experience from software development is that any complex/critical software definitely benefits from being tested by experienced users before final release - especially when it comes to a major upgrade. Users come with a totally different view of the software and won't inadvertably stay clear of problematic actions. They usually also have ways of using the software that the developers doesn't even know about - and many times they expect to be able to continue using it the same way after the upgrade.

So I think S/C could definitely benefit from having a beta tester group. It causes more work in organizing, but I have never seen it become a waste of time since it will free time from internal beta testing and bugs are generally detected faster by real users. I have never seen a beta test delay a project more than it deserved (lousy software needing a lot of time to be fixed), even if it involved many testers on remote locations.

I would have thought that S/C would at least make use of their plugin creators for this kind of testing although it should not be a problem to find willing and (very) able users with lots of experience and demanding usage profiles.

Being one of those hobby musicians, I can wait for S5 (even though I'll be downloading it ASAP when it arrives). I want S/C to succeed big time with this and the following releases of the software and that XCITE-1 even ends up on my desk some time in the future. One of the success factors is product quality, so they should take the time they need to reach that quality.

However, I believe they would reach a better result faster with a beta test. I also believe S/C would benefit from closer interactions with their user community in general, although it seems that they have chosen to follow in almost the same footsteps as CW when it comes to that.

AFAIK, the fact of a Beta Release of SFP5 and XITE-1 not being public doesn't mean there's no Beta program at all ;)

Yeah right...Time counter-detector -start-end- is indeed heavy to built in... (on web you have plenty of resources-freeones in any prog. language just for that..demo time limiting..). On the other hand did you think about example where more users testing piece of code. Error detection is faster, final release is coming faster then in example where you have group of ten people doing same thing. They can do all work sure, but they need more time for detection if any...note that "more time"...

Last successful public beta testing i can remember is coming from Propellerheads (Reason). They are doing it from version 2 to version 4.

Well, I can understand that Sonic Core isn't giving a new release date after it would be released 'soon' in December 2007, then in May 2007, then in July 2007. But I really would like something more specific than 'when it's done'... A date to look forward to (and maybe a date which is cause for a liitle dissapointment again, but I'll survive :) )

People, I can assure you that no-one is more anxious to see XITE-1 and Scope 5 released than SonicCore themselves! If they can be patient and wait until things are ready, then so can we! They must be desperate to get the new product out as it represents their future survival, but they know that to release XITE-1 before it's ready would be a terrible blow to their reputation and future sales. As many people have said, relax, enjoy life, make some music, don't fret too much about XITE-1 - it is coming.

No, you aren't. That's why I put up a countdown. Staring at it 24 hours a day. :o

Quite frankly, not so funny! I wonder how much time they can continue without cash coming in!

Lets hope they deliver soon.

It's like having a woman who breaks your heart again and again.

At a certain point I just stopped caring about it anymore.

Which is very sad really. A year ago I was very excited...

it's official when they make the announcement on their website and put scp5 up on ftp. otherwise it's just a nice sidenote, and I hope there's some truth in it, of course :)
