i did some electronic diy a year back, bought craig andertons book, "electronic projects for musicians?" and 4-5 of the kits paia sells for the projects in there.

i needed more practice, and patience, better understanding of how things work (although one doesn't even really need that much).

not one of the things i built worked when i was finished building them. got frustrated by it and sold it all off.

having said this, i would like to take up the olde soldering iron argarin.

i've got this analog drum machine on a circuit board i pulled from a kids toy....sounds pretty wicked as is but it needs more control and has a strange preset sequence function it would be neat to understand.

most likely i'd probobly buy another kit, from paia and or blacet, maybe do up some cabling.

thanks for the link, brought back memories....(sidstation no more....diy). heh.

Did you ever try making the midibox project?
http://www.ucapps.de

I think that will be my first project to attempt, In the summer I'm going to have plenty of time on my hands.

no, i haven't.

i've run across the website before though, very interesting and inspiring looking designs people have done.

my few compressors, noise gate and eq i built from those kits looked pretty ratty and plain...but hey it was a first time for me! i got the nerve to paint (duo-tone) a butt ugly junky midi controller once, turned out pretty cool.

i think being more of a software user now (just dawned on me) this type of project would make more sense than building some outboard audio equipment.

it'd be cool if you posted back on this project when you take it up or finish.

best.

I have just built the Midi64 midi controller project and found it easy to do, esp. since I have not done any electronics since college.
If you are interested in building a drum synth then try http://go.to/edrum/
There is a list of projects to build at this link http://www.ucapps.de/links.html.
Good luck. Building the Midibox64 has enabled me to get great twiddling out of my Pulsar.

I think I might have a go at building something similar to this....
http://www.mixedlogic.com (thanks to the guy who posted the link originally.)

Its entirely possible with the resources available at http://www.ucapps.de but a hell of a lot cheaper!
