I'm not familiar with Waves DRM. In general I have reluctantly come to accept DRM as long as it does not interfere with my freedom. Dare I say it, the majority of consumers would agree. What initially looked good on paper, didn't work out so well at least from my perspective on SC DRM.
okantah: That's pretty funny. SC is in their own world and they don't want feedback. It would be pretty easy for them to monitor this group but as you know, they only come here to announce new things they want to sell. If someone from SC is reading this speak now or forever hold your peace. I can assure everyone, this aint gonna happen.

About waves..read here.http://www.gearslutz.com/board/moan-zon ... plugs.html
You could aswell search for waves on that board. And do a search on other dsp powered plugs and there drm stuff. You will be surprised.'The sc route isnt even half bad here, sure it can take a while and it costs a imo small fee but...yeah read it up.

I have. There are a few alternatives around. Not as good, tho.bill3107 wrote:... I have not found in 2008 a good competitor to the Xite...
TC Konnenct 48, for example. Great features with some nice FX. Problem is that it's firewire only with no standalone mode and lots of users have had BIG problems with the drivers. TC's proposed merger with Gibson has gone pear shaped, maybe one factor was the recent problems with the entire Konnect range which wouldn't have inspired confidence. TC should have gone PCIe. SSL switched to PCIe rapido. The TC box hasn't the horsepower of XCITE by a long chalk, no XLR's, no synths, no VDAT type recording, no comprehensive MIDI routing system, no samplers, no Wolfie, no Mehdi, no Warpo, no Planet Z. It isn't the complete solution that Scope offers. Yet. Good idea but no cigar.

At the moment I have realized I have no real requirement at present for XCITE as I'm not a huge synth uber user. I understand it will be a beast for the real powermongers amongst us. What I need is lots of in's and out now, not whenever. If I got XCITE my i/o count would actually be less than with my present Scope setup so would be a backward step in that area. I fancy one of these to get lots of i/o. Profire 2626

Firewire, which apparently works well, but with option to use it as standalone. Very handy box for mobile live use.
Brain, I sympathize with your issues with the Scope company and products tho I don't necessarily agree with you. Nothing is ever absolutely perfect and I have learnt to not get upset if it is not. UAD, SSL, TC users et al have all had their various annoying problems. I don't find the SonicCore DRM method particularly bad. But then I'm not using multiple machines. I wouldn't like to think anyone has the access to the same great stuff that I do without paying for it. Though I do think an automated registration system for Scope would be nice. UAD's works fine. They don't have to deal with 3rd party developers tho.
Metic Halo have a new solution, for Macs only, that some guy was getting extremely fired up about over on gearslutz. "Revolutionary" & "a new way of working", etc. Some lone Scopeite chimes in with, "Well, actually, I've being doing this sort of stuff with Scope for years...." He was instantly put in his place and sent to stand in the corner with crys of "Creamware bankruptcy" ringing in his ears. He was quite right, Scope was and remains way ahead of the pack for those requiring a complete allinone solution. There simply aren't any others.
Best wishes to all.

PS Anyone know when Captain Bowen's Solaris 5 update is due? I figure he's got much to do with XCITE and Solaris hardware.
What do you mean by "all in one"? It doesn't do midi and audio sequencing well and the samplers are very weak.
I also have a philosophical issue with the modules. Why can I not maximize them and display the information larger plus have more information visible? I feel sometimes they favored their graphic design over basic functionality which is inherently wrong! What is with the fashion statement of this software? I don't get it. We are musicians not runway models. F*ck looking pretty and give me something easy to use.

I think you know what he meant by all in one, sure its not totally complete (i don't think anything out there is) but very much more complete then most dsp platforms. It's far more complete then most other dsp platforms in that it has synths, samplers, recording, effects, routing, mixing, soundcard, etc and the new XITE even includes preamps and easily goes from studio to stage. To have all that is to somewhat be a complete solution. Many other platforms don't do nearly that much. SCOPE may not handle sequencing that well but i'll take XITE-1 and my DAW's of choice over something like a Protools any day. Sure the SCOPE samplers don't have alot of up-to-date functionality but still that base is covered and some of us do like them. You can say all day long what SCOPE don't do but i'm more interested in the competition dsp platforms you can name that actually does more in same price range. Even those in greater price range fall short on some points like synth library or routing, etc.braincell wrote:What do you mean by "all in one"? .
Don't forget there will very likely be i/o expansion modules through the XTDM bus.. can perfectly imagine 16xZLink or 16xADAT i/o modules coming outnightscope wrote:What I need is lots of in's and out now, not whenever. Well, Mr Soundesigner said most of what I omitted. I agree with you I would love a comprehensive audio/midi suite within Scope. Be nice to use UAD, etc, inside Scope. The workaround I have is to use Reaper which could have been made for Scope with it's great routing and stability. Sort of allintwo. The present setup is more allinone for me than it is for you, I guess. We all use the system in our own ways.braincell wrote:What do you mean by "all in one"? The plugin is finished - I'm just waiting for Scope v5.0 to be released, because of the new encryption.stardust wrote:Still beta testing from what I see on John's webpage. No announcement when it will be finished yet.nightscope wrote:PS Anyone know when Captain Bowen's Solaris 5 update is due? You want the GUI to automaticly enlarge/shrink your plugins right. With backwards compatibility I assume ?
You also want the the maximized version to show more then the minimized version right ?

The SFP suffers from tiny fake hardware syndrome. As an example, they wanted the Minimax to look like a Moog, so to get to the "extra" features, you have to click on an obscure button. Why not be able to see all the features at once?
I disagree that it has to look like the original hardware. That is bullsh*t! Stop playing dollhouse and pretending it's hardware and just make it more functional and easy to use.
