Strangely not this time:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en
"This Beta release expires on December 31, 2008." :)
"The converter is a Beta release, and might be unable to convert all the data in Open XML files."

and it is one way, so if you want to exchange files in that format, there is either a converter from Office 2004 to .docx (don't know) or you have to buy Office 2008 (costs money)

@kylie: the same converter exists for Office2003-Win32 and is totally free, I'm pretty sure the beta will be extended by the next one (as it was for the previous) and so on till the final release or maybe MS will prefer people switching to openoffice or koffice which will include such a feature in the near future.

but it is still one-way, isnt't it?
you may read .docx with that converter without paying for Of2008, but you can't edit them and save them as .docx. and converting in either direction may still introduce loss of formatting information...

Huh? Let's get them to make this official policy in the ULA. This is actually what they do anyway but I want them to put it in writing so that all the world can see that they have no intention of fixing anything you buy. Then the consumer can make an informed decision. I was told many years ago when my dealer dropped Creamware that they dropped those products because they had a very bad relationship with the distributor. He didn't go into details. This is a major store. Now I shop online but I still saw "We No Longer Carry This Product" for the entire line.

always read and quote the whole sentence/argunment, or do you work for the yellow press?

He said that SC will not and should not fix any bugs. In or out of context, it means the same thing. This is totally bogus and he must be the first person in history begging a company *not* to fix anything. How lame! Maybe this is one of the reasons this company has not been and never will be financially sound.

It's very simple, make a great product at a great price and have good relations with customers. That is all they have to do, not be in some cloud doing whatever they want to do and not doing what is asked of them.

Nobody should pay for simple bug fixes and get duplicate and triplicate modules and then have to pay to transfer keys. A customer wants to buy what he needs and not be forced to buy packages of modules which he doesn't need just so they can say it's expensive because look at all you get.

I could care less what you think of version 4.5 or 5. All I want is the bugs to be fixed in what I have. I don't need to buy anything more. I don't want more modules. Al I want is to use what I have without these bugs. It's a ridiculously high price. You expect a little more respect from a company when you have spend so many thousands of dollars on their products already.

I did not say that as an absolute. I said SC should not fix any bugs in the 3.1/4.0 software. Any bug fixes, updates, whatever, will be in 5.0 and beyond.

Example: there were some bugs in Sonar 3 from Cakewalk. Some of them got fixed in free updates (3.1, 3.2, etc.), but others discovered later, after they were developing Sonar 4, were fixed in later versions, which was a paid upgrade. There was no reason to spend time and money fixing bugs for Sonar 3 when they were already fixed for Sonar 4. ANY OTHER COMPANY ON THE PLANET WORKS THE SAME WAY!!!!!

There is no other way to put it, and there's nothing more to say on the subject.

Looking forward to Xite and Scope 5.0,

Shayne

yes, the windows version does read and write, I haven't tested on mac though.
Don't know about the loss of formatting info, probably there might be a loss converting from docx to normal doc, but this might be a problem as well in Office 2007/2008 suites.

This update is (will probably be on mac) free only because M$ needs to impose OpenXML standard over OpenOffice's ODF.

well, the link you provided said the converter might not be able to convert all the data, and you should compare whether it's all there or not. that's it :)

no doubt about that. but reading and/or writing ooxml is not the only feature introduced by 2008 over 2004. if you want more, you pay the normal upgrade fee.

but that's quite OT now... :)

Sorry to insist, but that is because the mac version is still beta ;)

Yes agreed on both :), I thought that going slightly OT could be better for providing possible useful info in this thread instead of the daily war about good/evil S|C

is it from Micro$oft ? will never be anything but beta ... :D

seriously, there will never be a way to reliably convert between Office 2008 and previous versions in both directions
data models are way too different and content may be way too komplex

cheers, Tom

Exactly. Even braincell's beloved Steinberg work that way - i'm still waiting for my free fixes to VST 5.1 and some are waiting for SX 3.2 - in this case things that were actually promised but they always moved on to the next version and charged. Enough with the chip on your shoulder braincell, it's getting tiresome.

SonicCore has a fresh new start.

We should honor that.

I have all of the faith in the world with these guys.

I starting lurking in this forum back in 2001 and watched for 4 years as I was unable to register for I had no computer, but went to the library dilligently every week and checked in to PC reviewing sites, etc.

I watched Creamware take care of it's customers by releasing better cards, and 3rd party involvement w/ custom synths, etc.

I dove in July 2005 head first and have never looked back.

I know that those who buy XITE-1 will recieve great support, and just to have cards that are 10 years old functioning, with a new software upgrade, is outstading in terms of support.

I look at Steinberg, M$, and others who keep gouging our pockets and understand that is normal procedure.

We should be grateful our meger investment from years ago is strong and will continue to grow.

I have Gigastudio and Scope in my corner,.............I have no need for a ringman or refferee. I have SC, 3rd party develpers, and you guys here at PlanetZ, thanks to John Cooper.

IN THE BATTLE FOR SOUND...................................MY OPPONENTS ARE UNARMED. :D

hey braincell... i appreciate that you see the negative sides of scope also, and i agree with you on alot of things, believe me! ( and yes, sometimes i am fed up with al the sweet talking going on about scope here, because it is not perfect! but still good!
we'll just have to give soniccore a chance to take this platform to where it should be!
I think it's a very healthy sign that they are working on something new!.. as you said, the cards are ancient! but hey! they are making new things!!!

The xite is great for new customers or for stage performers. I understand that they just want to make the best possible hardware on the planet. It's noble I guess. So far I am not convinced about the 5.0 platform. Perhaps when it comes out someone will tell us why we need this.

Yes to new cards with all new modules and no modules I already paid for.
