I'm Italian, but my mother is Greek, from Kerkyra and i feel that "component" as I've spent all the summers of my youth with my grandparents, with Greek friends and living like a Greek. I'm also very influenced by Mediterranean music(s) and I love listening to it. :)

I think you have the best of both worlds being able to spend time in greece while living in Italy.
I have been to Italy many years ago and I loved it there.

Went to your website and heard your music, love it, what instruments is that on the track "Ancient Skin"? I love that Indian feel.

XITE-1/4LIVE

Hi there Jim,
All my stuff gets recorded through a Focusrite Twintrack pro to Cubase SX and or Vdat, depending on the song
besides all the software I use (Kontakt, Tascam GS3) I have a lot of hardware synths that I use depending on what sound I'm looking for.

If I want realistic instruments obviously I go to my Samplers I also use STS5000 in almost all my stuff.

But more specifically to your question I use some hardware fx units ( Lexicon, Roland Space echo, Alesis Q2 one of which I got from you, some dbx compressors) BUT I always use the outboard stuff in conjunction with Scope and it's FX.

I always bus everything to a Scope mixer and mix in real time (in the Box)
Always use Optimaster with Psy Q for mastering.

If you want to see more specifically what I have check this link of my studio gear http://www.yianniskapoulas.com/mystudio.html

If you would like to know something more specific , please ask me.

Thanks Jim, and thanks for your compliments, I hope you enjoyed my music.

[quote]

That's an Ovation Elite thinline guitar played with bottleneck and recorded acoustically with a vintage U87i . There is some Indian feel in the melody and probably in the hand's approach, that came natural playing over a drone. If it was on a 16 bar blues it would have been different!
Thanks for the nice comments. :)

Glad to see a lot of Canadians entered and had success with there submissions this year.

There is also a International press release as well I will post it, maybe you will see someone you know in there.

I know this is old news but for who is interested, here it is.

Thanks
Yiannis

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Canadian Songwriters Shine In 2007 International Songwriting Competition

April 14, 2008 -- The prestigious US-based International Songwriting Competition (ISC) is pleased to announce its 2007 winners and the strong presence of Canadian songwriters in many categories. Songwriters hailing from Canada won First Place in the Blues, Instrumental, and R&B/Hip-Hop categories, Second Place in the Americana, Jazz, and R&B/Hip-Hop categories, Third Place in the Gospel/Christian category, and many Honorable Mentions in multiple categories.

Renowned for its prestigious celebrity judges, ISC received over 15,000 songs from amateur and professional songwriters from 100 countries worldwide, confirming ISC's status as the leading global songwriting event. In fact, for the first time in the competition's history, the majority of winners (59%) come from outside the USA. More than $150,000 in cash and prizes is shared among the 59 winners, including an overall Grand Prize of $25,000 (US) cash, the largest cash Grand Prize of any songwriting competition in the world, and $30,000 in merchandise and services.

For a complete list of 2007 ISC winners and to hear the winning songs, go to www.songwritingcompetition.com/winners.htm

Candace Avery, Founder and Director of ISC, says "Over the years, ISC has always received many great entries from Canadian songwriters, but this year was especially significant because so many songs made it through to the finals and eventually became winners. The depth and diversity of the songs impressed the judges across the board. Let's hope this is a continuing trend for Canadian songwriters."

Jack de Keyzer from Toronto, ON, has been awarded First Place in the Blues Category for his song "That's The Only Time". De Keyzer is a Juno and multiple Maple Blues award-winning artist, blues guitarist, singer-songwriter, and producer. De Keyzer's professional career has spanned 32 years, and he has worked as a session guitarist for many artists including Etta James, Otis Rush, John Hammond Jr., Robert Gordon, Bo Diddley, Willy "Big Eyes" Smith, and Blue Rodeo. His latest CD, Blues Thing, was recently nominated for Blues Album of the Year for the 2008 Juno Awards.

Winning First Place in the Instrumental category is Yiannis Kapoulas from Hamilton, ON, for his song "Matador's Guitar". Kapoulas began his music career at the age of 4, and he has since become an adept string player and multi-instrumentalist. In 1989, Yiannis ventured to Europe where he spent 13 years recording, producing, and performing with many of the top artists in some of the most prestigious concert halls and venues. Instruments from his native Greece (such as the Bouzouki, Tzoura, Baglama, and Laouto as well as Eastern stringed instruments; Oud, Laouta, Saz, and Cumbus) can be heard throughout his compositions.

Kallen Saczkowski, better known as Katchphraze, from Oakville, ON, is awarded First Place in the R&B/Hip-Hop category for his song "Welcome To The Cold." Inspired by many genres of music, his powerful style clearly stood out to the ISC judges. In the summer of 2001, Katchphraze recorded an EP entitled Ones N Toos. Later that year, Katchphraze relocated across the country to Vancouver Island, where he began building a solid underground fan base and began performing with the likes of fellow Canadian talent (and ISC winner) Sweatshop Union, Moka Only, and Swollen Members. Katchphraze's full-length album Eye Can See Now was released in August, 2007.

Second Place honors are claimed by Scott Nolan of Winnipeg, MB, for his song "Bad Liver And A Broken Heart" in the Americana category; Richard Underhill from Toronto, ON, for his song "Surfing" in the Jazz category; and Robin Hooper, Golmorad Moshiri, Bryan Trevitt, Steve Messinger, David Coles, and Kevin Coles (Sweatshop Union) of Vancouver, BC, for their song "Try" in the R&B/Hip-Hop category.

Winning Third Place in the Gospel/Christian category is Greg Sczebel from Salmon Arm, BC, for his song "Homeland".

The 2007 Grand Prize is awarded to Eduard Glumov (Aktobe, Kazakhstan) and Z. Mulls (Swarthmore, PA, USA) for their song "I'm Not Your Friend." The song, entered in the Rock category, was written by Glumov with lyrics provided by Z. Mulls of Swarthmore, PA, USA. This collaboration - from Kazakhstan to the USA - from one side of the globe to the other - perfectly reflects ISC's mission of creating a competition that is inclusive of songwriters worldwide. Glumov, a singer/songwriter, and Z. Mulls, a lyricist, met each other on MusesMuse.com, a songwriting resource website, and their musical collaboration produced the winning song.

Applauded for its high caliber of judges, ISC compiled a stellar panel of judges for the 2007 competition, including: Tom Waits; Loretta Lynn; Julian Casablancas (The Strokes); Nelly Furtado; Ray Davies (The Kinks); Kenny Wayne Shepherd; Ornette Coleman; Youssou N'Dour; Sean Paul; Jerry Lee Lewis; "Weird Al" Yankovic; Black Francis (Pixies); Robert Smith (The Cure); Cassandra Wilson; David Cross; Craig Morgan; John Mayall; Joe Satriani; Toby Mac; Michael W.
