Where to get a good desk in UK for keyboard /2 TFT/monitors

Post by sonicstrav »

I was thinking of getting a desk to put my keyboard on (Korg Kontrol 49) + the Kore Contoller + 2 TFTs and 2 PMC active monitors

What about an office desk with a pull out keyboard tray?
Are they strong enough?

I thought I'd need a width of 130cm / depth 70-80 cm / height appox 70cm

I'm not sure about these 3 tier workstations - are the monitors too high up - bending the neck all the time?

Does anyone know of anything they have purchased in the UK that are near these specificaions (office supplies/ music shops / mfi etc)

I don't want to do DIY because it will look shit!

Hi strav,

I got a big banana shaped office desk from IKEA at home. Galant modular range. Big and very heavy duty. Adjustable T-frame or A-frame legs.

Whole Galant range here,

Has pull out drawer and bits and pieces from Summara & Signum range. Tho my computer is in another room for peace and quiet's sake.

Not the perfect solution but I got it for next to nothing.

PS Or Fredrick = Width: 139 cm, Depth: 72 cm, Height: 74 cm

Or Fredrick 2 with shelves, probably too high = Width: 128 cm, Depth: 72 cm, Height: 149 cm

Try a few used office furniture shops.. I picked up a really strong desk that's large enough to have 3x 19" rack size items side by side for £50 inc. delivery to my place, and the guy set it up for me too. There are quite a few of these types of shops in London (try Holloway Road).

I wouldn't really recommend putting your PMCs on your desk though - get some stands for them.

the easiest way i found to get one exactly the size you want is to buy some finished plywood. build the desk how you want, (you can buy metal table legs, or make rack mount bases depends how much outboard gear you have).

you can get some aluminum angle to finish the edges, or some half round wood if you want it not so industrial looking.

its very cheap, you just need a saw and a screwdriver, and you get it the exact size you designed.

Thanks - I'll look into that :)
First job is to build the new PC - have to wait for 2/3 weeks for the new processor to go on sale though
