are they 24 bits?
A16Ultras $500 ea? SCOPE Pro booster card $700?
They're 24bit and can run in 96khz for 8 channels using 2x ADAT (SMUX). You can switch each bank of 8 i/o between balanced/unbalanced using 4 dip switches. For the money it's a great converter. By the way you beat me to this Scope card... still, I'm as glad as the rest of the community that you now have a 14/15 dsp card

Heh heh -- note how I said "more modern" above, not "improved".garyb wrote:afaik, these are the same as the new ones. i don't think that ad/das in general have really improved in a bit, a good design is a good design....
(It amazes me how some quality fanatics will chase the latest and greatest models of A-D/D-A converters while maintaining an assortment of not-so-great microphones for recording... Personally I've never heard a reason to go beyond 44.1/24 bit with an A16Ultra and a good microphone and preamp, but hey, that's just me!)
Thanks much for your kind words Jimmy! The main reason for the rack separation was my concern over the heat these babies emit. Nevertheless I don't see any rack rash on them, which is partly a nice side-effect of keeping the units separated, but also a real testament to the quality of materials -- I'm still impressed with the heavy duty build of the A16U.
I believe BOTH are sold at this point. <- Edited 3:30pm PST Sunday
Cheers all,
Johann

Whoah I didn't realize this thread went on to page 2 already! Sorry...
Neutron: 24 bit is no problem with the A16U. With Z-Link I *believe* you can use a single Z-Link for 96 kHz operation, though in my old age I've forgotten a lot of the SCOE specs... can anyone confirm or correct? Otherwise, at 44.1 and 48, you can certainly use 1 ADAT channel or 1 Zlink for each set of 8 channels. As darkrezin pointed out, you would need 2 ADAT channels for 96 kHz or 88.2.
OK my eyes are getting bleary, I need to not be at a computer for a while (and another cup of coffee would be nice too... forgive me if I come back this afternoon all wired on caffeine to ramble on even more!)
Cheers,
bleary-eyed Johann

How much do you need.
The girls are using the Behringer, and maybe the Producer ( Michelle ) can break into the vault for the skins.
I am just the lowly " Musical Director ". I kind of fancy that anyway. Producer means that if they suck when they perform it's your fault. I can always say I smoked, but didn't inhale.
