DFI P35-T2R

Post by bill3107 »

As i was a bit fed up with the lack of bios options of my Intel DP365LT i have ordered (at a good price) the expensive but extreme board DFI P35-T2R :

- 3 PCI
- a removable audio unit (i mean, you can really remove the hardware audio module ! )
- extreme bios allowing many tweakings ...

I will give my feedback as soon as i have received it so be patient ... I underline the fact that there are really fifferences between boards in terms of efficiency. I had the extreme intel D975XBX board (only 2 pci slots) and then the DP365LT one and both were very stable. Buuuuuuuuut, a friend of mine who uses GS3, Logic and Scope (3 computers) told me that the D975XBX was better for GS3 (ram management ?) compared to the DP365LT as he tried both. Soooooo, i now tend to think that an extreme board (i mean a superior quality) may lead to better performance, really .....

I will give my feddback on this board very soon ...

That is the supreme enthusiast's board for sure.

http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3129

That board allows one to use whatever memory is desired, and will do feats of magic when OC'ng.

The Intel X38's BIOS is very tweakable also. They just started doing this since everybody else but them did it.

The 3 x PCI's full of Scope cards...................yummy.

Notice the SATA connectors angle, and layout. Designed as if they knew many cards would be installed, very considerate.

here I am !!!! I eventually received my board (from spain as I had a paypal refund for an Ebay Hong kong seller not very reliable :-? ).

Well, this borad is just AMAZING ...... Why ?

1) the audio module is 100% removable, I mean no hradware audio except my soniccore boards !
2) Have a look at the layout : so much pcie and 3 PCI available
3) a very comprehensive bios (overclocking but also all what we need to tweak for audio from IRQ to many other things I missed with my DP965LT (that were very reliable though)
4) many fan connectors
5) a very reliable power system (necessary for overclocking but also for a very good stability and long term stabilty of components)
6) I got rid of small problems with my DP965LT and my DVD drive (could not boot if a DVD was inside the drive ?

Of course I paid 220 euros for this board and it is sometimes a bit more expensive but :-? )

This board is an extreme one for sure but offers what we need for audio (and scope !) : 3 PCI, comprehensive bios, many pcie available ... well what can i say : that's the best computing purchase I have ever made !

I have bought a Quad Q6700 (barely used) at a good price and I now have a very good system ready for the new generation of software but I am ready for other pcie stuff too

Hope it helps,

Jonathan

I still have to stick my parts together, all placed around a dp965lt, so I'd like to hear some more details on what you were missing when you had it running.

the bios is very simple in the intel one. Lt's say the DFI is a bigger investment on the furture for me if I gather pcie and pci boards as you can tweak irqs, latency for example. Of course I may try some little overclocking later if I need extra power for big projects too. The Intel DP965Lt is great though. Reliable and simple. I just need a high end motherboard as I will need a very efficient and tweakable PC as I have dropped the "2 PC" idea and with GVI (I will soon buy) and additional dsp boards tweaking options may become a strength ! Just my opinion though. I had just one stupid bug with my plextor dvd drive as my intel DP965LT could not boot when a DVD was inside the Plextor...

well, since I have a 2+ PC setup anyway I might not suffer from that so much, also I won't do GVI. I furthermore intend to leave the cards in a magma connected via pcie (as soon as I can afford such a host card), so I hope I won't run into bigger issues here...

ps: was that a video dvd or a dvd-rom in your drive? and did you check the boot order?

my DVD burner is a good Plextor one. No idea of the reason of such a "bug" (i had checked the boot order of course). I do not have the intel board anymore so that's ok now ... thank you !

but I do :).
I have a teac dvd-rom, hope it's fine. the burner is connected via firewire, since I don't need to boot from it, and I want to have it switched off when I don't need it.
the bios of the dp965lt had several changes lately, so maybe that issue is gone silently anyway :)
