well, nobody has read anything at all about SCP v5, except the statement that vista is supported...
so let's be just patient (something we've got some practise in :D )

What's that blanking panel on the rear for then?

Oh, and as regards support i had reason to email Ralf yesterday and got my keys within 15 minutes. It was even a hotmail account.

I think the A16U has always had that... it's an expansion slot (can't be bothered to crane my neck around the back of the rack right now to verify :)

At some point they were talking about some kind of USB2 add-on card so you could use it as an audio interface. Not really sure why anyone would want such a thing but there you go.

the manual mentions two possible addons: usb2 and additional adat ports to make the unit fully 96kHz even with adat. s/mux is already implemented, just the additional ports are missing. when I had ralf on the phone some months ago he told me that neither one has gone beyond an engineering sample. so I'm afraid we'll never see one of them. it's just consequent that the XLR version doesn't come with that slot (or at least I cannot figure out where; photo is way too dark). since SC surely doesn't want to mechanically redesign the existing case for the common A16U, the slot is still in place.
I for one would like to see the advent of the adat expansion, but that might remain a dream...

I bet we see the A16 super-computer here with a slot for a scope pro card (which will be compressed internally). Or maybe it's not standalone but connectable via firewire... That's really great news :D

Edit:
Personally I vote for a bigger (full colour, not only three and better resolution) display on the front...

thanks for the info kylie.. extra adat ports for 16 channels of 24/96 would indeed be a cool addon... but yeah you're right, I guess it won't happen.

that would surely be possible with the XLR case, but then they had to redesign more than just equipping the unit with xlr instead of trs jacks and enlarging the housing (and, of course, stripping the expansion slot :) ). I'm kinda sure the XLR is nothing more than that, using renowned components with a ultra-slight modification. I'm fine with that, if it still leaves room for a v2 :)

That comes as standard. Apparently you can even do a large chested woman with them if you squint a bit.
