3PCI + 2Video slots any reccomendations?

Post by Neutron »

i am getting back into this game and i need a new motherboard which will at least be compatible with the new 45nm chips (they will run very cool!)

i am sure by now people have figured out which mainboards are good for scope cards.

obviously there has to be room for all the slots to be filled. no double width cards will be used.

i will have 2 boards with option for third.(so 3 pci slots)
dual video cards (passive) to run 3 monitors.(so 2 pci-e slots) they dont have to be SLI capable or anything silly like that.

raid not needed. (can turn off raid chip)
dual GBlan not needed (can turn it off though)

thanks

Hi!

I just got a system up an running based on the Gigabyte GA-965P-S3, P965, Socket-775, ATX, SATAII, GbLAN, DDR2, 1xPCI-Ex16, cpu is a Core2Duo E4300. The MB has 3 PCI. I have a 6DSP Pulsar II and a Powersampler running now.
The CPU is slightly overclocked. So far the system as a whole has run stable, not a glitch.
Ok, just realised the 2 PCIe needed , so this MB is out, then. Me and my sloppy reading......(grrrr... )

Hi Neutron,

Take care that the 2d PCIe for video will pick up 512Mb of memory address space!

cheers

Hi,

No seems linked to the number of channel for the PCIe port: 16x => 512, 8x => 256Mcheers

so i guess i need a board with 2x 8 lane PCIe which would make things even more complicated to find.

unless there is some card with more than 2 video outputs.

well you need 3, one for scope, one for sequencer tracks and one for all the other crap from the sequencer and various other things you want to see.

well, maybe not at a reasonable price. there are devices like this: http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/gxm/p ... o/home.php

i didn't notice the 4 head thing, i just quickly made a comment. apologies. i'm sure that that card will work. ati cards certainly work.

or that one:

http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/pid/p ... lppcie.php

has 4 dvi or analog outs :) and is available as pci also. don't know if that makes it possible to run 2 of them for 8 display support, but it would be worth a try... :)

EDIT: just read it. they say it works :D

the original price is... well... um... heavy, but it's possible to get one way cheaper on ebay.

no problem, man. you know what you need!
i only piped in because i've seen fewer driver issues from nvidia(they seem to have a fantastic motherboard for gamers as well). ati cards surely work very well. i have no doubt it will do the trick!

that gigabyte board looks nice i think i will try them for a change from my last 10 asus boards!

i decided not to bother with 3 monitors, just get 2 big ones :D i have a 24" LG on my main pc and it is very nice with ableton etc.
