well, I didn't want to participate here, but since the cat's out of bag anyway...
this hacking blurb is complete bullsh*t - there is no hacking involved at all, not even an SDK.
in SFP(!) ....blablabla
EDITED BY MANUEL BETMAN Astroman was explaining, with details how to pirate a device !
....and it may show one or the other 'demo protection module', which is usually a primitive timer/counter plus decision.
Click-Delete-Reconnect and the device doesn't beep or timeout anymore.
You can hardly call that 'hacking' and it isn't even in legal context, not even if the developer had different intentions...
if the device is provided 'as is' then it's the sole responsibility of the developer to have taken any precautions to prevent unintended use, if 'use' is restricted to the system's regular operation, which opening a file unquestionably is.
The 'user' can in no way be assumed to 'think' for another person - that IS a legal matter of fact and I'm absolutely sure to have read sentences with exactly that reasioning.

btwv now I regret that I didn't quote a specific message by Eric towards SpaceF which revealed much about his true character

2.) it was written after (for the 100th time) after Eric himself had written 'you can open a device, for example to remove copy protection'
3.) the intention of the post was to show that it was nonsense to call someone a 'hacker' for using the 'Open file' menu item of the operating system.
4.) there is not a single additional step required, the device isn't touched at all by any tools - and that is not hacking
5.) as written above it is perfectly legal to do whatever SFP allows you do with the routing window.
it is not legal to use the device without a license, which is a totally obvious matter of fact.
6.) Months before this 'case' I have informed Olive in a private message on january 1st that this is not only possible with SDK, but also with SFP and suggested to exchange the demos on the server.
Stupid me considering it 'new-years-goodwill' as they always suggested I had intentions to damage their business - which is bare nonsense.
7.) I have spent almost 3k Euro in SFP devices, so don't call me a pirate
cheers, Tom
