Hi Guys,
My old P4 2.4G Gigabyte Mobo with 1G RAM is just not cutting it anymore, so its time to upgrade.
I have a SCOPE Pro and a Pulsar 2 card in my current machine.
I work mainly with both Cubase 4, Reason and Samplitude 9 (Mainly for mastering)
- Can anyone recommend a Mobo?
- Is there any Mobo's to take wide berth from?
- Should I go for Quad Core? Is SCOPE Ok with dual core CPUs?
- What would be the minimum recommended RAM? I am thinking maybe 4GB at this stage.
- In my last Tower case I had to cut a section away to fit the SCOPE card in. Is there cases that will take it without modification?
- Also I am looking to invest in a second SCOPE Pro. Is there cases that will do the job?
- I have a DVD Burner and 3 IDE Drives currently (1 with windows and apps, 1 with projects and 1 with samples). I note most modern boards dont cater for that many IDE devices. Can you suggest work arounds?

A Bit of Hardware Advice Please

GA-P35C-DS3R is also interesting.
on some variants (like this particular one) the green connector is a major pita.
most variants don't have firewire, so a pcie card would be required if needed.
rev.1 has classic mouse/keyb/lpt/com ports.
they have 1 (one) IDE ch., so you may want to invest in an internal sata burner etc.
they say it runs cooler, from inspection of a sample (got one for my next build, it will take some time though) I can say the heatsinks are placed reasonably well. You also get a eSata connector with POWER plug - you can backup your box easily if you bring along an ORDINARY sata HD (yes, I'm cheap).
from internet readings it works with cheap ram (patriot etc.) as well if need be (if you need to stuff it with 8gigs etc).

Thanks also to Bool. I have used Gigabyte for many years now without any great trouble and yes that board does look the goods.

The E6700, a slower version of the E6750.
It all depends how much ASIO stuff you want to use. The E6750, or the faster E6850 ( 275 USD ), are plenty fast.
Quad cores are a little slower, and Sonar seems to take advantage of that better than Cubase does.

That way you can make a better decision as everybody here benchmarks their DAW's in the same quest that we desire.
