Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P Compatability with Pulsar 2

Post by arpeggio »

Does anyone have expirience with Pulsar 2 and
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P Intel P35 chipset LGA 775 ?
(The processor is Intel core 2 quad Q6600 2.4 GHz)

What would be alternative good motherboards for Pulsar 2 (for the Q6600)?[/url]

I know it is not the answer you are waiting for, but it can help anyway. I have this very board, but with a Pulsar I. If a Pulsar I works well with it, you can expect an even better performance if you work with a newer one.

In the 975X category:

The ASUS P5W DH Deluxe I have at work is not a bad board. I will admit thought that having WiFi available is not that important to me at this point, nor do I really like the way they ate 1 channel of the SATA to power the other SATA. But it is a nice piece of hardware. The Intel BadAxe2 stuff is still kind of cool also, the 975X stuff. ASUS P5B Deluxe seems to have good history also (ah that one is P965 Express chipset of course).

In the P35 category:

The Gigabyte stuff is nice. I have no problem with Gigabyte, as they usually do a really good job on the BIOS, and give you tons of options. Another one that seems OK is this ASUS P5K Deluxe. Looks like a nice board, but may be spendy. (I'm thinking of doing a $$$ ARECA RAID5 in a x4 or x8 slot on the Northbridge on my next build, so I typically look for a 2nd x16 connector as a sign of that.)

Other wise, if you want to hang on for a bit, you might get some PCIE v2 slots on the newer X38 chipset boards that are about to release. Not that this specifically helps you with PCI Scope boards, but I can see where having a bunch more PCIE channels on the Northbridge may end up being a good performance feature in some high end applications. Although it is a huge unknown at this point if/when PCIE v2 is going to show real-world benefits.

List of X38 stuff included in other recent thread here: http://www.planetz.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=23133
