How much GPU memory do you need for audio app work only?

Approx how much GPU memory do you really need for typical audio app work?

If your lazy and on a roll, you might have 5 to 10 VST fx open + sequencer (zoom function etc) + scope etc - on a dual monitor setup....

Anyone who knows?

i've had 64mb cards work very well indeed. i usually get 256 or even 512mb these days because the price is so cheap, but even 128mb is plenty...

The Core GPU speed is much more important than the amount of MBs a video card may have, take that into account that point.

So, you should ask yourself two questions: which Nvidia chipset should I take and with how much ram, this is the correct way of choosing a video card. Then of course, be careful with the trademark too. I would suggest you to get an EVGA, because they are junk free, they don’t include games usually, and so you pay for the hardware, and not for a bundle of games you’re not going to use anyway.

evga, that's my usual brand.....cheap and they work well....

Reason for asking is that I'm looking into pcie x 1 graphics card for my ASUSP5K (due to it's layout, a pciex1 graphics card will uncover the last PCI slot and thus make room for my UAD card - and a extra pciex16 for later use) .

There is 'not to many' pciex1 graphics cards in the world, but Matrox got a reasonable priced one. I'm worried about the lack of memory though (32MB). Do not want the card to start messing with my CPU.

Garyb: Thnx as always...Have you installed any Dual EVGA PCIEx16 without the extra cooling block lately - cos that might work for me - if it only takes up 1 slot I mean..

well I've been running a matrox g450 (32MB) with absolutely no problem at all for years. No fan to add to noise. Can't see any reason to use any thing more powerful just for a DAW.

sure, the matrox works fine.

the nvidias work a look a little nicer on screen.....
