well, UAD (as the successor of UA) had the exact functional descriptions of the 'classic' analog hardware. To code this in whatever is not a particular demanding task. From the economic point of view it was a smart decision to pick an outdated graphic accelerator for that purpose.

Waves and Receptor are (afaik) just plain hosts for X86 coded stuff,.
They happen to look functionally similiar to DSP extenders, which is (imho) not unwelcome to their makers, as it pretends a higher value than the embedded technology represents.

Analog Devices always had a strong focus on quality audio and it's eventually their library stuff that makes the difference - and attracts manufacturers.
The Scope system is an entirely unique approach with specific strengths and weaknesses, you don't find any parts of it elsewhere - even if some of the executing chips are identical.
