New motherboard and number of PCI slots

Post by Flyerfred »

Hello,

I am planing to buy an up to date motherboard, to increase overall performance. So far I used with success an ASUS P4B533, and I would like to switch to Intel Dual Core CPU, if this is not stopper for Creamware applications.

- Does ASUS propose a MB which is known to be reliable with CW?
- Is there any MB which can host my 3 CW PCI cards?

Thank you! / Merci beaucoup!

That is right, I didn't notice that the integrated ASUS cooling system could be a problem with the CW cards's length...

Didn't know about alternate.de MB, seems to be what I am looking for. Do you use this brand with CW cards? No problem to declare?!

Best regards,

Brotha' Man FlyerFred,
If you decide to stay with Scope only, the E6600 will be wasted IMHO. But if you are going to use the multidriver method with VST, or Giga, you definately need Core 2 Duo CPU. They are amazingly audio friendly.
I am using the old DP865PERL for my Scope / Giga only DAW, and everything else is with the Intel DP965LT w/ E series CPU's. My VST host / Scope DAW's use the E6700, as it has some serious power x 2. For recording purposes you might not need that much power, but for live work with mission critical stability, I can vouge for this combo. I will be using Cubase 4 with Scope, Gigastudio VSTi ( GVI ), and some VSTi synths that require serious CPU cycles. Tascam/Nemesys is implementing necsessary optimizations for SSE4, and multi-threading as we speak. There will be some posting on this at months end in November. I have avoided VST audio/MIDI sequencers for too long. The tiny LCD on my Roland MC-500MKII is annoyingly small, and forces me to use an Alesis HD24/96 to record audio/vocals. I look forward to locking myself in my studio for a while to join the VST host / SFP world.

Thank you so much for your replies!

Actually, I am using using the PC as follow:

- Windows XP Pro (MB P4B533 + 1GB RAM)
- 3 CW cards: mixing, effects, synths (Minimax, Prodyssey & MIII)
- 1 Alesis AI3 to put in digital 2 synths (1 Virus & 1 Roland SH 09), using ADAT
- Cubase VST, with quite a lot of VSTs I like (Kontakt, Stylus, ...)

So in fact I need MB CPU power for the VSTs, and I noticed that my mix use of VST + CW + digital recording on hard drive sometimes causes some missed synchros and some click in the sounds (seldom but...) and maybe CW cards should benefit more CPU power and RAM, as I guess memory exchanges between the MB and CW cards can be done at higher frequency...?

Regards to all,

Fred
