Sorting posts by column heading was my of my (many) code-additions to the phpBB 1.4. I like it too - which is why I added that code :) However, one of the big downsides of all my customizations to the code was that it made upgrading the forums very very difficult. This time, I'm going to try to avoid personalized mods, as much as possible. This way, when phpBB 3.0 is ready, we can switch over relatively easy...

I'm seeing the orange on grey buttons on the login screens and the reply screens (like the one I'm typing this in now)

I don't know if it's of any imporatance in this situation but I'm using the Microsoft internet explorer.

Oh I just checked in Mozilla, where it looks fine, so the problem is prolly Microsoft specific... go figure ;)

Internet Explorer is infamous for these kinds of errors.

Cheers!
Thomas :)

maybe you consider sharing your modifications with the developers, so it could be a standard feature in later versions. I suppose there is a lot of people who would like it... :)

I see... it's beta2 right now, which means nothing, of course. did you check whether our beloved feature will be included in 3.0 anyway, or if it would be easy to re-implement it later?

ps. I'm already about to miss it... *sniff*
pps. afair there was a list in the faq, describing the various levels of pulsar geekdom. not that I expect to breathe fire or levitate too soon, but... :)

Hi Kylie,
I found a standard phpBB2 mod to do it, and I'll install it when I have a chance.
Works a bit differently than my click-the-headers mod:
"adds a sort box at the bottom of the viewforum, allowing to sort topics per title, author, time, and of course last reply, ascending/descending"

Cheers,
John

yes, but I remember John himself mentioned that was one of the points that had to be taken when upgrading the forum.
It got discussed for a while, and was accepted fast :-)

edit, oops, didn't scoll down enough to view John's answer

ps, I'm glad the planetzzzz logo will stay, let there be things in life that don't change :D

well, I started reading the forum update thread after being faced with the fact it had already happened :)
there was almost nothing I really missed before. now I do. but john already offered help, and I think I can live with the sort box (yes, I'd prefer it on top of the table, but you can't have everything... :) )
the memberlist would be an example where it is already implemented.

thanks, john, for offering. by the way, some news concerning pulsar geekdom levels? :D

hi stardust,
stardust wrote:[joke]
what about dynamic ranks:

a half gary = half the posts gary has atm
a third hub = 1/3 of hub's posts
a quarter tom =1/4 of Tom's post count
[/joke]
too dynamic, imho. as the threshold varies, it incorporates recalculating the level value everytime one of the top guys increases his counter. I don't know whether phpBB provides such a function or john is really willing to pick his pocket calculator every morning to update... :D
additional, it will become harder and harder to raise one's own level, given the current posting speed. hell, it's even more dynamic than MOVeq+ :)

Huub,

the thing that we were forced to lose was my custom tagging and filtering mechanism for uploads to the music/devices/etc forums- when you posted a new topic, you were required to add certain tags (like genre, price, etc), and then viewers could filter a forum view by genre/price/etc. We all agreed that no one really used those filtering features very much anyway, so we lost it in the upgrade. I converted those tags into text at the top of each existing music/devices/etc topic. New topics won't have those tags, unless users specifically type them in themselves.

What Kylie was referring to was simply the ability to sort topics in a forum view by author/date/etc. That's a much smaller mod, and as I mentioned - has been done in a standard mod that I can install.

Cheers,
John

You're right- phpBB doesn't list the ranks in the FAQ anymore. Bummer.
Well, here they are:

Neophyte Poster 0
Budding Pulsarian 11
Aspiring to Pulsar Geekdom
Pulsar Geek 71
Totally Obsessed Pulsar Geek 176
Pulsar Disciple 500
Guru Pulsarian 1000
Levitating Fire-Breathing Pulsar Overlord 2000

These levels/titles were set up waaaaay back in the day, before we realized just how obsessed you guys really are
I don't think we ever expected to have users with thousands and thousands of posts!

Dunno whether it makes sense to change them now, or just add more levels, or start from scratch with new names, or what?

No, there's no support for dynamic ranks. But the idea of a half-gary totally cracks me up :)

Ok, this is installed and working now.
I like my old way better, but this'll do for now.

Funny, my first test was to display announcements, sorted by date ascending, and the first post was this one:
http://www.planetz.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=889

How's that for a coincidence :)

thanks a lot :) . yes, it's ok for now, but if you should ever feel the need to re-establish the old behaviour, don't hesitate :)
and, yes, I did not mean custom filters. just sorting by post date and reply date. and, maybe author, yes... nice thought... :)

The agreement is still there:
http://www.planetz.com/forums/profile.php?mode=register

You just don't see the link in the menu, after you've logged in.

I should add a "No acting like retards" clause to the agreement
