My secret??? Maybe because I've PC since 1992... DOS, Win3.1, Win95, Win98, WinMe, Win2k, Win XP... and MAC since 1996. I'm very very expert now.
PCI & IRQ, etc. have no more mystery to me

Never had many problems, just one issue with cracks & pops in Cubase quite some time ago, which I solved á la here:
http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic ... 96&forum=3
(Basically, uncheck the 'lower latency' box in the Advanced settings dialog under Device Setup...)
I use an ASUS MOBO, a PIV 2.6 GHz CPU, 1.5GB RAM and an AGP Graphics card running Windows 2000 SP4.
The only performace-based 'mod' I've made is to install Windows 2000 as a 'Standard PC', not 'ACPI PC'. This is only necessary for Windows 2000 w/ older-ish MOBOs though; if you're running XP on a modern MOBO, it should be installed with ACPI (and APIC) enabled. Beyond that, I've not tried to apply any tweaks to improve the audio streaming.
Software-wise, I'm still on Scope 3.1c and using Cubase SL 2.
Presumably you've made this posting because you're having problems..?

working with continously decreasing number of problems (i can say nearly none now) since i found planet-z and study the forums
i think it's much more about knowing the key basics which they do not tell you elsewhere...(a big one for planet-z community here
)

The first DAW was my first one with Gigastudio 3 Orchestra and SFP 4.5
The second DAW will be my FOH / Monitor mixer DAW w/ extra synths
These are both operational and extrenely stable, 100% record at all gigs to date.
The third DAW will run Cubase 4, SFP. and the new multuthreaded Gigastudio in it's VST form, and extra synths.
The fourth DAW will be a drum submixer w/ Gigastudio 3 Orchestra, and SFP, plus extra synths.
The last two DAW's will be up and running after I purchase another Type II card, and Cubase 4. I'm only short on Cubase and another card to make this a reality. But all of these parts have been swapped at times, and are stable. Plus the Supermicro P4SCT+II in my old DP DAW worked flawlessley.

I have:
P2 MMX 133 MHz
Luna2
Cirrus Logic 5446 - 2 MB RAM
HDD IDE 800MB
64 MB SDRam
32 x CDROM Teac
Midi filter
Everything works fine...
Software:
Win 98 - Standard PC ( although I must pull the cable from wall to turn of PC, it doesn't boter me much... )
Windows with no graphical interface, only CLI - it slows down the PCI transfer.
SFP 4.5
Cubase SX 0.1b - ( will get 1.2 when I get more ram - I heard it is ram-demanding )
Sound Forge 1.0a - ( I wanted 2.1beta, but who needs all the fancy stuff, they are slowing my PC )
That's it...
Didn't I mention that I am working on a new Madonna's album ? I have some problems LOADING BFD DRUMS PLUGIN IN RAM and USING MORE THAN 2 CHANNELS SIMULTANEOUSLY, but, hey, you can't get it all...
