Hi Shayne,
My system is PIV hyperthreaded on an P4C800 deluxe!!!
I still have my unused KN8S ULTRA but I do not have bought the CPU as it is still not clear if it will work
.
An intel CPU is a no go for me with their current technology (too much heat for summer time with my 3 creamware boards).
cheers
Michel

what kind of board? On 2006-03-19 08:46, Shayne White wrote:
Several people on this forum have gotten dualcore to work, it's only me with the problem.MD69, ScofieldKid, and others....

Hi AndreD,
I DO care of PCI performance as I have 8ASIO outs (stereo), 1 plate reverb, 1 masterverb pro, 1 CD100, 1 OPTIMASTER, 1 X MACHINE, 1 TAPE DELAY, as well as 5 Synths all real time at 4ms latency 48KHz.
In summer, room temp is about 33°C leaving 12°C of headroom for thermal dissipation in the PC box. With 3 Boards and a PIV Northwood, I reach the 45°C with 2 FANS (industrial PC Box).
Going to a P4D 950 (equivalent to an X2 4800) brings 230W dissipation (compare to the 98W from the P4 Northwood). Too much heat!
I am eagerly seeking after a new PC which will brings 45% performance increase compare to my current system. If anyone could give me an advise about this, I'll be really happy!
Cheers

Hi AndreD,
No, on my P4C800 with the PIV Northwood hyperthreaded.
According to your comment (Awesome on AMD), seems like a NForce 3 Ultra will not be able to cope with this workload.
Argh, that's not really good news as it is my "generic" config. Can you confirm your feeling??????
Cheers

Is PCI performance really such a big thing? I just wonder, because my daw setup is a cheap 600 Eur Dell Dimension 3000 (i915, 3ghz hyperthreading off, 1gb ram). with only two pci slots, 1 pci-e. btw i had to break the hd-cage to get my 15dsp scope card inI DO care of PCI performance as I have 8ASIO outs (stereo), 1 plate reverb, 1 masterverb pro, 1 CD100, 1 OPTIMASTER, 1 X MACHINE, 1 TAPE DELAY, as well as 5 Synths all real time at 4ms latency 48KHz.

my all in one project contains a stm2448, Asio2-24 Source and Dest with 24 channels each, 1 masterverb pro, 1 STW P100, 1 STW A100, 1 masterverb, bx_digital, analyzer from wolf, optimaster, psy-q, at least 4 Vinco's, 3 SPL Attacker, 2 SPL TransDesigner, some Delays and some other little effects. no synths, only "real" music stuff

ah, a16 ultra over z-link, 1 pulsar II Z-link, 1 Scope...

Hi,
PCI performance is the main bottleneck and often, problems related to "driver" (according to customers) find their roots there.
Globally, an MB chipset can give you 64 ASIO channel (@33MHz PCI clock) and devices using PC memory use "hidden" ASIO channels.
The Masterverb test give you a good figure of how much ASIO channel you can use (a masterverb can be thought as using 4 "hidden" ASIO channel for example.
cheers

hi AndreD
"hidden" or equivalent if yoou want. The fact is just that it exist some data transfert between PC memory and the scope board. Just as for example the STS2000 which consumme some PCI bandwidth because there is up to 16 channels data transfert (implicit) as well as 8 IO Bus (explicit).
Cheers
By the way, you seems convinced that an NFORCE3 Ultra exhibit poorer PCI bandwith compare to an intel 875P chipset. Can you confirm as my "generic" config is near the maximum on my system.
Cheers
