Hi,
I have bought new monitors (Event TR8), this are amplified monitors .
I now want to conect them directly to the Luna card .
Which cable do I need to buy ?
Before I was using a simple line to stereo and was conecting to a home stereo amplifier and speakers.
Regards,
Sid
Cable for Connecting Luna to the monitors.
I use a stereo phono jack plug to two mono phono jacks in the other end.

Your Event TR8's will be able to take balanced or unbalanced inputs, but I'm 99% positive that If you read the TR8 manual you'll notice that they will perform best if fed with balanced signals. This can be a problem when you don't have a balanced out & also means that you probably shouldn't shell out much cash if buying unbalanced cables for this job.
So you've got 3 choices really :-
(the first being the cheapest & last being most costly)
1. Use an unbalanced Y-cable from the Luna, but not an expensive one, as your speaker performance won't be improved much if at all when they're not running balanced.
2. Balance the signal from the Luna & use good balanced XLR cables for your monitor feeds. A DI box which doesn't pick up your local radio station for a laugh would do the trick.
3. get a converter with balanced I/O's such as an A16, A16u, AI-13, ADA8000.
hope this helps

not to start controversy, but unbalanced is just fine. in theory, balanced has a lower noise floor, at least potentially, but otherwise, either sounds the same. if i had a choice i'd go balanced, but i'm not fanatical about it. yes, monster and mogami have such a cable, you can use an insert cable for that job.
Some excellent active speakers have been reported to "hiss" & not provide their full range with an unbalanced connection even when it 'says on the box' that they work with either.
These TR8's ground the negative signal on unbalanced use, so I'd be interested to hear how you get on using the unbalanced inputs, as the different RMS voltages on the inputs should make an audible difference...

neg to ground is typical. most likely those monitor problems are from connecting a -20 signal to a +4 input. most balanced signals are considerably hotter and connecting an unbalanced device to a balanced device where that's not taken into consideration(via switch or switching jack or buffer amp)could be a problem...
these monitors will likely be ok, the more "pro" the device, the less likely it is to play happily with semi-pro(-20) devices...
