hi!
i was take a look at what a new PC for pulsars should be assembled and would cost...

i see that a lot of new MoBo has PCI express and 3 old PCI slots, as for example
Asus P5AD2-E Deluxe motherboard
ASUS P5 AD2 E Premium
found in the masterverb test thread.

BUT my big problem is that i would need AT LEAST 4 PCI slots, since i have 3 creamware card and a soudnblaster, which i use for additional midi IN/OUT (2in, 1 out)...

is there a good MoBo (good for CW cards!) with CPU support over 3GHz (LGA775 anyone?), FSB800 and 2 GB ram support, better with onboard videocard and perhaps a serial ata connector?

i suppose i won't need PCI express for a long time, since i don't plan to change my creamware cards even if crewamware should produce a PCIx card (dont' have money to spend ALSO on this... and my setup is working fine!! :smile: )

this pc would be used only for audio and normal PC task (office, internet, multimedia, etc...) not for extreme games!

removing the good old soundblaster woul mean to spend on an external USB midi interface OR to remove part of my hardware, which would make me very sad!! :smile:

PCI Express boards apparently are terrible for legacy PCI bandwidth anyway. Go with an AGP system instead.

The older nForce 3 boards should be OK, but to support AMD x2 they'll need a BIOS upgrade. That's the only complication.

i have soundblaster Live2 which i use for midi coz i'd get lots'a problem with pulsar2 midi port. it keeps all note on :sad:
do you have the same problem. (i guess my casio midi kbd is causing the prob)

Hi Bosone,
Why don't you dump that good old Soundblaster in favour of a usb midi interface ?
Lots of cheap one to be found in the market today... And the soundblaster may hog the Pci buss just for midi I/O...
It's that or a Magma chassis I'm afraid...

I would consider a dual core If I was to buid a machine today as well...

Maybe I'm wrong, but AFAIK about the "PCI Express bad for PCI" thing there isn't any truth (totally a fake). Moreover with PCIe all should be better, because busses are completely separeted, see:

with PCIe there's no more vga sharing with anything PCI (or anything else), this "should" be a LOT better *IMHO*

(a part from single chipset/bios/manufacturer issues)

keep in mind, this thought is only my supposition because I've haven't tested yet!

About mobos, there are only Intel and SuperMicro with 4 PCI slots.

I've just ordered a Intel D945PVS (http://www.intel.com/products/motherboa ... /index.htm) motherboard for the same 4 PCI matter (see: http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic ... forum=19&8)
and a 820 Pentium D
...I will tell you when it arrives...
