cd rom access denied error
when scope 4.0 is running, windoze explorer gives me an "access is denied" error to my cd rom drive when trying to access whatever is on the cd. i'm running win2000 on a p4pe 2.4g system with cubase 5.0 + whatever update makes it as recent as it gets.
does anyone have a workaround or know why?
thanks in advance.

ive had this problem on two occations:
1. my cdburner was destroyed
2. trying to play a copy protected CD (GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR)
so i would recommend this if it is not a protected cd: reinstall drivers, and if that doesnt work, borrow an old cd rom (to rule out malfunctioning ide interface etc.)

I've switched ribbon cables, tried the cd rom on both IDE 1 and 2 (as slave in both instances), and tried 3 different cd rom drives - a rom, a dvd rom/cd burner combo, and a brand new, out of the box cd burner (i like to have spares lying around, cuz you never know...) and all combinations give the same result. Disgusted, I backed everything up and reformatted/reinstalled everything and still have the same friggin problem. I suppose that any time I need cd access, I'll have to turn scope "off."

piddi, i have all of the latest drivers/bios. double checked all of that before posting.
I saw on another thread that someone mentioned sfp "hides" the regular cd rom drivers in lieu of the ability to read akai disks. i would wager defective motherboard, and was leaning that way, but it seems that the person on the other thread is using an athlon system and getting the same issue...so it kindof points toward a weird interaction of the os and sfp...
that's all well and good, and i'll even live with that - but will someone try to read a regular cd in their cd rom with sfp running in a win2000 environment and let me know how it goes?
also - if it fares well, take a look at your device settings and let me know how it looks from that end.
in the mean time, i've re-downloaded sfp 4.0 on the off chance that my orignial d/l was corrupt. i'll reinstall it here shortly (next day or so) and repost if it helps.

OK, so I think that I found a workaround - I place a CD in the CD rom, then open a window to see the contents of the CD, but I don't open any programs. After opening a window to the CD rom, I start SFP without closing the window.
After starting SFP, I then start whatever program needs to access the CD to run, or I can launch whatever from the CD rom drive. After finished with that particular CD rom, I can eject/reinsert a new CD without the need to restart SFP.
I remember running win2000 service pack 3 without these particular issues - could this be a service pack 4 problem?
Anyone running 3 with no problems? Anyone running 4 with problems/without problems?

i have the same problem and i am also running service pack 4
i get a tip that it may be the driver in sfp for reading the akai format, but i don`t know how to disable this function so that i can try it
do you have any suggestions?

I've had exactly this problem for about a year now where I get "access denied" when exploring a CD/DVD and Scope is running.
The only work around I've found as mentioned earlier is to kill Scope, open a path to the cd rom drive by exploring it and then starting Scope again.
Unfortunately this doesn't work when you want to watch a DVD because the DVD program wants audio drivers to play and won't work for me in that particular instance. I really need some solution. I bet it's to do with the AKAI drivers that allow the reading of those disks. If only that could be temporarily diabled in some way that would be a great help.
I'm running Win 2K SP4
Pulsar Scope Fusion V3.1c

I'd try 2 things:
1) make sure the ASPI layer is properly installed and
2) right-click in the SFP/Scope OS FileBrowser and click 'clear CD-Cache'
If neither of these help, we'd have to search further...

This kind of things may sometimes happen, and the only solution is clearing the CMOS, whic is very simple. Try this please, it could work. But remember first to get note of all the difficult settings, so you don't need to come back and sort them out again.
