Those 2 young ladies can't have been very good looking Hubird. Why else would you use such strong wave distortion. Btw, did you know you can 'fade' the filters in P'shop ;P

The "motel room" one is my favorite in that respect. The impression of the table and lamp in a smoky room really stands out(maybe I should post the original pic?..naaaaw...)

Well, you're kidding I guess, but to feed the discussion, in every picture uploaded here and also on my server's page I was after that balance between reality and alienation

The girls's pict, as explained, was taken in a bankrupt nightbar, hence the description of 'Drown or Drunk'.
It might explain the situation of the girls as well of the bar

Check this out, here the effect is left at a100% stage (no 'Fade'), quite a difference, and with no impact anymore:

it's nothing special btw, a small ( afterwards zoomed) detail on a landscape photo, but I liked it to be able to show one with a train at request

For those interested:

To get the Fade function working, you first need to actually apply the Filter (or any!!) effect on the picture.
Then the Fade... functions turns active in the Filter main menu!
You can easily undo from the main undo menu, including the filter effect itself!

Also, entering the fade window, you get almost twenty different standard 'styles' or performances of the particular effect, giving you an almost infinite number of possible results...
This function is what makes Photoshop so great and huge, IMHO, as it works also on every other action, like colour corrections etc.

It took me a while to discover that by myself, and I suspected Paul didn't know about it.
He confirmed me that

So, check it out if you're working with PS now and then, it's graet and easy to use

BTW, that fade function works on your 'adjustments' too. Another interesting one is the 'New adjustment layer' under the 'layer' menu. This is very handy

(although i'm not sure when Adobe added that funtion. We have the newest one 'CS2' which has a lot of new functions. Learning how to use the 'path' & 'mask' tools in P'shop are what i'd like to do. If i could master these, i'd feel a lot more confident with the capabilities. It's such deep software.

I use Photoshop 7. The fade function is found in Layer/Layer Style/Blending options. This is how I animated my mascot. This is what he looks like when he takes a fit:

i think maybe Hubird was reffering to the fade option in the screenshots i've put up here. The first one shows a Motion Blur filter. The second shows a highlighted 'fade motion blur' option in the 'edit' menu. Much fun to be had here if you haven't found it already. This function goes waaay back with Pshop versions
