I've been looking for an adaptor to allow me to use some of my PCMCIA cards in a PC - but haven't found anything.

Does anyone know whether such an adaptor exists ?

Have a look at Quatech:

and do a search USB to PCMCIA.
Most interfaces are based on USB.

I definitely remember seeing one (PCI card with a PCMCIA slot), but I can't remember what it was, or where you might find one..

Yes, they exist. Just avoid anything made by Ricoh (the controllers).
