News from Creamware - Status of the Company and Scope
I think that it's safe to assume with the new hardware will have onboard RAM, if it's goinig to be an external box.
With firewire bandwidth issues, the last thing you need is extra audio streams clogging the bus for delays, reverbs and samplers.
As for 'freeze' - I can't really see the point or how it would work for a realtime DSP system.

I can't see the point too, being not a DSP programmer; but UAD's DSP cards do have a freeze ability, so why not a future Scope hardware... Seeing that the freeze feature is now a strong point for native and UAD stuffsOn 2005-07-12 08:54, darkrezin wrote:

Onboard memory for reverb and delays would be nice, but there is no way they're going to fit a gig or more of ram onto the card/box for sampling. For that reason, they won't be able to do FireWire or USB. They're going to HAVE to use PCI-Express. There is no other option.

How about a PCI, PCI/X or PCI Express card together with an external box? Could mean that the PCI card can be replaced without having to replace the box. That way, it should be easier to stay up to date with the latest computer hardware without having to redesign everything and basically start from scratch. The actual connection from the box to the card could be proprietary, like z-link. Sort of like the MOTU PCI card and external I/O boxes. On steroids that is...
yeah to be honest, *anything* would be fine.
Apart from all the idle speculation about the form the thing will take, I think to start talking about upgrade paths etc is a bit premature. IMHO I don't think it's reasonable to expect this - apart from anything else I'm not sure how those returned cards could be useful to CW to make it worthwhile.
A discount would be more than adequate.
Ability to combine new and old cards via STDM - would be amazing, although maybe an engineering nightmare.

Happy to hear they are again working on new hardware, I'm looking forward to new DSPs for Scope!
I put my bet, like shayne and garyb, on next generation PCI, against outboard gear, at least untill they slap some memory slots on the boards...

I was seriously thinking about getting a new card. I'm glad I read this before I did. The value of the old cards is going to drop more though. We are speculating that it will be an external device? I like that idea. I wonder if I will be able to register all my stuff to it. Onboard RAM? sounds great! Especially if users can add RAM to it. Creamware has a tendency to make everything proprietary. Their firewire connector to the Luna and external breakout box is an example.
sorry again but there will be _no_ replacement for the current scope cards in near future! On 2005-07-12 09:22, paulrmartin wrote:
I canèt bear to think of the cost of replacing 2 Pulsar 2 cards.....
furthermore, it is too early to say anything about a new hardware. as mentioned before, not even the connection is chosen!
the truth:
we got a scope plugin working on new 200MHz DSPs:

To tell you the truth, I'm just happy to see them getting some success with their investment.
I always feel that it is in my interests for Creamware to be on a winner.
I'm happy to wait a while before I get myself in a panic about replacing or upgrading my setup.

Maybe - but I couldn't really care less whether it's one or the other at the moment.expansion instead of replacing will be the action![]()
I'd rather deal with a real spec rather than spec-ulation for the time being. Only then will I start worrying about any of it.
Again though - hurrah for Creamware.

Well, there will definitely be a legacy-support issue to handle. On 2005-07-11 10:40, jabney wrote:
hi Voidar,
You said, "I hope we'll be able to exchange our old cards for the new ones for a given price when these are out."
As long as I can use all - or even the vast majority - of my existing devices on the new hardware, I'll be OK.
An official CreamWare trade-in program would be nice, but doesn't having access to ebay constitute a trade-in program these days?
best,
John
