SpaceF DXD and BlackBox (Summer Update)

DXD synth for Scope (part of the SpaceF BlackBox)

DXD synth from SpaceF is now released, with more than 384 high quality presets. The update is packed with all recent oscillators and filters, and it adds 1 new chord oscillator (Warp324, 3*3 oscillators) and 2 new MSFX (Mono to Stereo fx satellites).

A few mp3s of the factory presets will tell you better than anything else what is special about DXD, so listen to the demos (no added Eqs or effects, no samples or wavetables except drums):
DXD Melancholy (synth string solo)
DXD funky (velocity bass)
DXD voice pads (vocal pads, bells)
There are more mp3s, and you will also find the list of presets used here

Those presets make a good use of filters such as SDX-Bp, Spectral 2, Haze, Sideband 2...

You are the cause I got to bed way to late!

DXD is a fantastic achivement with so many really good patches. The full MIDI implementation is working like a charm.

The BlackBox package is so good value for money.

For those who missed, there is a DXD version dated 5 may 2005 which optimises integration with hardware controllers.
Available as a separate download in the BB user area.

here is the info :
DXD - optimisation for hardware controllers - 5 may 2005:
available as an individual download if you already downloaded the big update.

The 5 may 2005 version improves hardware controller integration:
- LP filter zipper noise removed.
- Default assignment of all Oscillator Mutes (instead of Amp/Filter Vel and A.Slope)
- Sat 2 Mod Select, now CC 118


NB : if you want different CC, do them like usual with any SFP device. the default assignment allows not to be obliged to load a midi CC preset, that's all. they can be changed, adapted and saved just as you wish.

Hi sorry to bump this thread but it is for important info for all BB users :

- SDX BP was forgotten in the big update zip so it is now available in the user area. Sorry for any unconvenience.

- the updates (all of them) are ADDED to the CD install: it will replace some osc/filters by new ones, and leave others untouched. It means : do not delete your BB CD install (a lot of the CD's osc/filters are not part of any update (because they don't need to be).

- some of the 384 DXD factory presets (and some of the 127 mao sdx/dxd conversions) use "SRING" oscillators which were made for AN osc and which are available as a seperate download. (follow the link labelled "AN-Oscillators : 14 revised and modified osc 21 Feb. 2005 "). Both synths work on very different amplitude ranges (of modulation) and the modulated "AN SRING" oscillator will have to be made especially for DXD. the differences between the regular SRING and AN SRING is the way incoming modulation is treated.

- in fact, the new presets of DXD use all kind of osc and filters and it is necessary to have installed all downloads to take advantage of the presets (ie DXD update, SDX BP but also AN oscillators)
All those modules are included in the BlackBox user area or on the CD.

- Moreover, the BB will remain as it is for one or two monthes (ie no modification of what is already done) so it is time to download everything and update your BB install.

next updates should be big zips too, to avoid too much downloads of individual files. that's also why it will take a bit of time before next updates. the updates concern implementation of midi Ccs in LBH, and new Sring osc for dxd. not really modifications of what is already there.
I hope to be able to make a full single updated download (with all and everything) for sometime before 2006

when that's done, the BB will reach its final price of 167 euros (if there are any left).

do not hesitate to bug me with questions anyway.

Good. I found the various updates a bit confusing at times, particularly when one set is updated two weeks after initial release.

The other things is, I'd like a PDF as well since some people cannot be on the net all the time. At least you can read the PDF without logging on when you install the updates. And it saves you bandwidth too.

i'll probably zip the html manual when i finish the echo manual.
i found freewares that do pdf, but the layout is not great, the links inside pages do not work (no chapters possible neither) and the size is a bit strange (lines go out of screen, unless you zoom to value that makes the text not readable).
if someone knows a proper pdf editor which allows linking and chaptering ....or if somebody wants to do it...
currently my priority is to renew the domain of the user area and transfer spacef.com to that server. I can only renew one of the domain, and both expire on 7 july. no other investment immediately possible if not directly related to BB itself. sorry about that.

Mmm, OpenOffice has a "create PDF" function that works pretty ok, it should load HTML fine also. http://www.openoffice.org

well, i just tried it and it doesn't keep links, nor the animated gifs, the image quality is lost, the text is a bit blurred.
Here is a direct conversion so you see what it does :

so it's Friday 13 and, by popular demand, here you go for another download :

- v 1.3 all previous updates - single download. 2 step cut n paste install- 12 may 2005 - 34.003 ko (33 mb)

- a read me file is included here and inside the zip.

- contains all previous updates (all osc, filters, devices, tools, all factory presets etc etc). You can delete all that you downloaded before (if you wish).
- the installation procedure will create folders for the modulars 2 and 3 menus, where you will find the osc, filters and effect hosts. there are a few skins for the modular3 too.
- A new preset subfolder is also created with a backup of the 45 preset lists for various devices (they are in a sub folder to avoid overwritting your existing presets). You will even find midi CC sysex for BCR 2000 and Edirol pcr 30 as good start to make your own (sorry no docs yet).
- All existing html manuals are also included, and located in the manual folder (sorry, no way to make a pdf with a link for access from sfp yet. But at least all is viewable from your disk).
- All files have the same date (burnt on cd then recopied on disk before zipping). 

as a last recommendation, it is a good idea to write down your username/password and to tape it (or glue it) inside the dvd case of the BlackBox, for further reference.

*** AN OSC / Midi CC/Preset Bug correction:
The Midi CC version had mistakes in presets in certain circumstances (internal values change, but not the graphics). This version solves all problems by removing CCs on various modulators.This version will replace the an-osc with full midi CC until a possible correction (it is related to XTC compatibilty, which is not fully supported yet by AN Osc).
There is no problem with DXD or other devs with CCs.

*** ADD ONS :
Exceptionally for owners of the BlackBox Limited edition :
Some devices have been added to the Blackbox and I have decided that it would be free.

** Wax (release version) : in the plugins directory
** Slapback : (release version) : in the mono effects directory.
** High Drix filter Wah : will be placed in the Satellite filters folder.

*** Preset lists for AN Osc :
A preset list containing 4 banks (170 presets) from Laurent Arrault (mao musique) will be placed in the "BlackBox v1.3 presets backup" folder.

This download is a standalone download for the moment.

This read me file is included in the zip.

AN Osc update is also included in the AN user area.

BlackBox Summer Update

There is a new zip (v 1.31 summer update, 37 mb) with all latest updates/presets etc.
Also contains new SlapBack versions (new midi version).
Of course, it is enhanced for SFP 4 and SFP 3.1.

certainly not as a public forum. we'll see in september. nothing is going to happen until then.
what happens is that i don't want to manage forums hacks not wsilling to buy an expensive asp server. moreover, i will be in another studio the major part of the summer for production sessions.

You can still ask for help through email, but thanks to forgive possible late answers as i will be very buzy.

nb : i use multisession Cd burning, i have the same cd # 2 since day one (to avoid cd wastes) ...
