for anything that isn't a streaming sampler (or repeatedly has to load > 256 MB sized sets, I'd use a 5200 rpm disk. Cheap, cool, quiet and reliable

I only just installed a seagate barracuda 200Gb drive ATA100. Very quiet and I'm very happy.

@Ricardo: if you haven't done yet, it's worth checking the heat of the Barracuda after half an hour uptime or so.
Due to the increased number of platters (more air friction inside) all large disks seem to develope lots of xtra heat.
Aside from that Barracudas make a really solid impression

i have an ekstra fan laying around if i get any heating problems.

Thanx Tom, will do! Although I haven't noticed any prblems so far. My box is quite well ventilated.
