Rack Mount Scope

Hello,

I just want to use my Scope Project card for the synthesizers like a Noah on my synth rack. What would be a pc minimum hardware requirements just to run the synths alone? Do you guys know of good pc rackmount cases? Has anybody else done something similar? I'm open to ideas...

I'm not sure about the specifics of rack-mount cases, but I'm sure that you could get away with a VERY limited computer if you're just using synths - all the hard work happens in the card.

[edit] you just need enough pci bandwidth to transmit MIDI (i.e. hardly any) and to co-ordinate the GUI (i.e. a little bit more)

There are lots of people here using comparatively old systems which would be considered obselete in other DAW environments ! Indeed, they can be MORE stable. I nice tweaked win 98 SE is all that's really needed.

Yeah, I have an Asus CUSL2 + p3-700MHz setup and it's fine. I'd say the minimum requirement would be around 300-400MHz, as long as you have a good chipset and good PCI performance, you shouldn't have any problems.

I have an Infinite Vortex Midnite Blue rackmount case that's ultra uber leet, can't remember who their supplier was tho. It's 3-4U big, fairly heavy, but everyone who sees it goes "oooh what's that blue box, it's pretty neat." Great chick magnet =P I'm not sure a case smaller than 3U could accomodate a Scope board, maybe if you find one that has one or two horizontal PCI slots.

You need to watch the depth spec of the Rack mount PC case. Many are way too deep to fit into a normal rack.

I gotta watch the price of some of these too. Gosh, why are they so expensive...

Maybe I just get a nice horizontal case. They'd work too. What are they called? I need a keyword to search on Google...

pc rackmount 19"
mine is very heavy . maybe it's why it's so expensive ?

Well, I guess I found a better solution for my setup. I'm keeping the Creamware card in the same machine as my firewire interface but I route the synths in through ADAT into the firewire audio card. This way I keep the XTC type routing and mixing in Cubase but not restricted to XTC devices and other XTC issues

Yeah, that approximatly what i'm doing to, routing everything in adat. Using my firewire interface for asio and preamps, pulsar for processing audio with flexor, and some synths too

Work great.

You will have a hard time finding a musician rack to fit them into. It apears, that PC-rack clossets are depper, and so are the boxes.

Meant to say also, that google comes up with companies worldwide who supply cheap PCI riser cards for about 50-80 $$.
32 bit, various specs, active, passive, 1u, 2u name it

Any thoughts or experience ??
