announcement of standalone (!) 32 step sequencer
In a first alpha version I had the possibility integrated to select a separate midi channel for each note, but I took it out because it was even more fiddling on the surface compared to now and too much controls on the surface. If you all think, you can live with that, I can put it back. What's your opinion ?
Regarding sepearate controllers -> Making this in addition to the already existing controls would use too much dsp, but I thought about making a small additional device to convert velocity into any controller data. You could use this device then for other midi signals as well.
Would that be a solution for you ?
Btw, I plan to make a small brother with 16 steps with some limitiations regarding the 32stepsequencer (e.g. no gate length settings), but with the advantage of saving dsp and having separate controller values.
Does anyone has interest in that ?
So, if anyone has more ideas, I'll happily include them in following versions, if they make sense, are possible and don't waste to much dsp.
kind regards
Wolfgang

I might want the smaller one. Other options wouldn't use DSP when they are switched off would they? I probably have more DSP than most as I have 11 DSP chips. The converter sounds okay. I was thinking if I could use the sequencer to sequencer a filter on a synth rather than sequence the notes, it would be an effect I would use a lot. Look at the step filter in Cubase SX. I love that effect, however the filter sounds weak so it would be helpful to have something like that in Creamware. I guess I could use the modular synth to create that effect but sadly I'm not good with the modular. Maybe I can convince someone to do it for me.

Braincell, making a filterbank in Modular (especially with flexor) is not only incredibly easy but can be as simple as passing a mono signal through 1 filter (or a stereo signal through 2) and using a Val Monitor to receive a midi cc and distribute it to the filter(s) cutoff etc. You can then play around with learning by going beyond this--adding a Flexor drive or tape saturation module before the filters, some lfo action...eventually even figuring how to retrigger stuff via an MVC A and the gate output etc...
highly recommend entry into learning modular (and very sweet sounding I must say).

Hi,
making a sequenced filter in modular is indeed not that complicated. Braincell, have a look at the modular forum, afair there already are some examples.
But afaik you can't send midi messages to other synths that way and use their filters.
And yes, if special options are switched off, the responsible circuit can be unloaded from dsp, however this doesn't work in all cases.
kind regards

well, it seems like a cool idea. (not sure about the bright red design though, that's really not something I would want to have to look at for extended periods of time!)
I just got Sonicbytes' ERA though (which, btw Braincell, has the ability to output sequences of midi cc along with the notes. So you might want to check that out) so my stepsequencing needs are pretty much fulfilled already.

sad that the site doesn't even mention that it's only Windows.

yes, nice example ... btw, this is easily achievable with my LoopMangler. I bet the pad wasn't triggered by the StepSeq. However their StepSeq. has nice features.
reg. the surface color: the red isn't that bright in reality and it's easy to change it, but I didn't heard any complaint regarding this from my customers until now.
Still there are some unique features, mine has:
- runs on scope
- 32 steps
- modulatable Swing (afaik no other stepsequencer can do this)
kind regards
Wolfgang

Yes, an oversight. They really should look into a Linux version...On 2004-12-16 21:39, hubird wrote:
