So, just took delivery of a nice new 3GHz machine with twin drives, DVD, etc on a Asus P4P800-E.

But I'm having great trouble getting it to see the second hard drive. I can't get the bios to detect it, and when I install XP it shows only the C drive.

I know that it's formatted & OK because the original "shop install" showed it there ready to use.

Of course I wiped their install (too much extra software I didn't want), but have since had no joy...

I know there's lots of ASus owners about... Any clues to the buried treasure of my "missing" hard drive ?

Hi Spirit,
I have a similar problem. When booting, I see every time the message "primary slave hd fails". So, I press the reset knob, after rebooting the BIOS appears, I press "save and exit", my win98se appears, all drives are recognised.
This started happening when I built in a new 2nd HD. A little bit annoying, but I can live with it.
Try rebooting.

Good luck, Thomas

Well, after trying everything I finally popped the box. And there was my second drive hooked up to a RAID controller (which I'd disabled in the BIOS).

Moral of story: Pop box before blowing top.
