Just got DSP book and was wondering if Pulsar cards can be used to practice and learn?
Does Pulsar have to have its own developement kit to run on DSPs?
If I wanted to get SDK which board must I own?
Thanks
DSP Board
you must own a 15 DSP board to qualify for the free SDK, but it won't help on the DSP level coding.
SDK is a high level tool completely hiding the machine level details.
The DSP assembly is 'embedded' in those atoms and even the interface specs (of the atoms)aren't public (afaik), otherwise it would be fairly easy to write a compiler for that stuff.
Possibly there might also exist a license issue with Analog's tools, according to some stuff Nico has posted some time ago - but I have no reliable details on that case.
If you're serious about dealing with DSP details there's a kit by Analog for the smaller Sharcs, the Blackfins (2104).
It's a prototyping system (all icluded)offered for a promotional price, I guess in the $100 range.
The other 'real' stuff can be fairly expensive, depending on the tools mostly.
cheers, Tom
