Hello everybody...
I'm probably doing something stupid, because i hate this stuff and usually get someone to do it for me, but i'm trying to install a new RAM stick and my PC won't have it...it just goes into safe mode and then says
'windows protection error...restart your computer' when i restart, the same thing happens...and round and round it goes. Take it out and everything works again? If i go into the setup it shows the new amount of RAM, but just won't boot up? Any ideas?
Installing RAM
Are you sure that you have bought the correct type of RAM?
And are you sure that you have installed it correctly? (I hate to admit this, bout I once actually managed to install a RAM-stick the wrong way and burned of my MB.... DOH!)
Check the MB-manual for the specs on what of RAM will work with it, and make sure that your new RAM-stick is of the same type as your existing RAM-sticks.

More than once people will force it the opposite way. It sound carzy, but we all mistake now and then... so cnech if the pinns in your slot conside with your RAM stick.
You should also chech how many slots you have in your MOBO. Many boads today accept RAM if they are one after the other, or in the contrary, living a space between. You should see if changing slot solves the problem. If after that you still have problems, you may have a dammaged slot.

Try this:
Remove the existing RAM, and insert your new stick into one of the slots used by the existing RAM (i.e. only the new RAM's in the PC)
Did that work? If not, then return it as it seems quite likely you've got some knackered RAM.
By the way, have you verified that your MOBO can accept the combination/amount of RAM which you're trying to use?

I've never heard of or seen that before! Still, YMMV depending on the MOBO, I suppose.lexfx wrote:
i asked somebody yesterday about this and they told me i have to enable the memory slot in the BIOS (or something like that) so i'll try that in a minute.
You could also use my previous suggestion as a way of checking whether what they're saying might be true.
